Slough Creek
Overview
Slough Creek Campground is situated on Perry Lake in the lush Kansas forest. As the largest and most popular recreation area at the lake, Slough Creek is an ideal destination for family camping trips.
CAMPGROUND GATE POLICY--Park entrance gates will be closed from 10pm-6am on Friday and Saturday nights and the entirety of holiday weekends. An exit lane is provided with one way traffic only. No late entrance will be allowed and only Park Staff or Emergency Personnel will be permitted though the gate after 10pm.
Recreation
Perry lake has a reputation for being one of the best sailing lakes in the region; however, boaters of all types will enjoy the many opportunities offered here, whether it's sailing, power boating or canoeing. Perry Lake offers excellent fishing: White crappie, flathead catfish, walleye, white bass, channel catfish and sauger are in abundance throughout the lake. In addition to the vast lake, the area has approximately 27,000 acres of public land dedicated to wildlife management: turkey, deer, quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, duck and geese are all found on these federal lands. For hikers, the 29-mile Perry Lake loop trail offers a range of terrain and difficulty from easy, gentle slopes in the south to rugged, varying elevation changes in the north. The Slough Creek trailhead for the Perry Lake Trail is located on-site. There is also a short loop trail through the Slough Creek Area called the Thunder Ridge Trail with the trailhead just outside the main campground gate. The Thunder Ridge Trail is approximately 2.5 miles and offers a diverse array of terrain and scenery in such a short trail.Facilities
Slough Creek Campground offers 174 reservable spacious campsites, ranging from walk-in tent sites to full electric and water hookup sites.
In addition to the individual campsites, one large group camp is available for large parties or family functions and provides privacy from the main campground.
Natural Features
Perry Lake Dam was completed in 1969 to help with flood control for the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Today, the lake boasts 159 miles of shoreline and 12,000 surface acres of water, creating countless recreational activities for visitors, and earning it the nickname "paradise on the plains." The campground is surrounded by the lake on one side and a dense canopy of forest on the other, making it ideal for those wishing to enjoy the best of both environments.Contact Info

I’ve been coming to Perry lake since I was a baby! Grew up here in the summers with my siblings.. and we now raise our kids here just about every weekend during summer.. the owners are always nice and people for the most part take their part in keeping it clean. People wave when you drive by. There is always someone willing to help if you need it.. overall just a great place to spend your free time.

Roads out of the campground loops need to be fixed. They are dangerous. Toilets have a disgusting crust on them in South Point. Love the general campground, just need to continue improvements. The new picnic tables are great!!

When we arrived at our camp site the volunteer notified us that there was a double booking for the site and we would have to move! Not a huge issue but still frustrating

The size of the campsites were really nice and spacious but the ground was not that level. My main complaint was the bathrooms at the campsite. They were not very clean. They need new toilets and fresh paint inside.

This campground has both shaded and open spaces that accommodate RVs of all types. It was easy to park my campervan and hook up to the electric. The showers need updating or modernizing, such as installing more efficient showerheads (the water went everywhere) and adding seats or shelves for toiletries.

I don't normally leave reviews but I wanted to let everyone know about this campground. We have been travelling from Corp of Engineer campgrounds to Corp of Engineer campgrounds for about two years now and usually they are excellent. This campground was totally wore out. The roads were poorly maintained. The restrooms/showers were totally worn out and there was no way I would use them. The picnic tables at each site was rotted out so bad that you would be afraid to sit on them for fear they would break. We did not see anyone (host or ranger) going through the campground like you see at others. We were supposed to be there six nights but we were so disappointed we left after two. Sad that this location was not taken care of properly. It could be great.

We moved to this campground from the Rock Creek Campground peninsula when the lake rose. The sites at the upper end of the Slough Creek campground, where we landed, had deteriorated roads and the vault toilet was closed for the season (in June). We had some shade and a fairly level site. We never saw a camp host in the two nights we were there, even though we knocked on their door upon arrival. The electric hookup was fine and there was water available to fill our tank.

This is a great campsite, but be aware of a few issues. The ladies restroom auto light doesn't work and there isn't any soap either. There is also poison ivy in the trees near the campsites. These issues have been there for the last few years and haven't been addressed.

Our experience is always fantastic, however this time was even an improvement over our previous experiences. The staff/volunteers, and rangers were very receptive to our communications, offered us grace when we had some teens that were e=being a bit wild, and helped us when our jet ski broke down in the middle of the lake. They even stopped by to give our little kids stickers and whistles. Absolutely our best experience yet, and we have camped at this group campsite - 8x in the last 4 years.

The campgrounds at Lake Perry need maintenance! Some of the restrooms are out of order. One of the shower houses I tried had no water pressure to speak of. The fixtures are outdated. Paint is peeling everywhere. The big shower house has floors so slimy that it was hard to stand in them without slipping around. It is a lovely campground and I am sure the staff does their best, but it seems like regular maintenance, repair, painting, etc. has been neglected for a long time. I know funding cuts have not helped.

Noisy people, about 4 spots away and they smoked marijuana the whole time. No hosts, volunteers, rangers, or sheriffs ever stopped anything.

Usually this is great place to camp for memorial weekend. Our family has been there for a decade now, every memorial weekend. We love it for the location, and the ability to fish and swim right by our sites. This year was not what we had come to expect. Quiet hours were not followed, we weren’t checked in at the gate house for our reservations, we just drove in. No checks for if we’d actually paid or anything. No tags for vehicles. It was the Wild West.

I stayed at Slough creek at lake perry ks. My biggest complaint is the bathrooms and shower houses. They are in desperate need of attention. They are just nasty. A good cleaning and some paint would do wonders.

Have been camping at Perry for several decades. Love the spacious camping spots and the senior prices! I guess funding for bathroom cleaning is almost nil, since the bathrooms have not been cleaned for the past year or so. Other than that, camping at Perry is wonderful!

This campground is very lovely, next to the lake and well maintained. The wildlife is spectacular and trees on or near each site provide shade. The volunteers are wonderful.

We had a great level site with unobstructed view of the lake. A beautiful way to wake up and watch the sun set. Fishing opportunities were ok, however, it is hard to find a good spot if you are fishing from the coast. The rocks make it difficult to to sit in a level position and the grass isn't cut far enough back to gain access easily. I did not check the shower house, however, In the past they have been so gross. We now have a shower in our camper to alleviate that issue. The restrooms are in really good conditions and kept clean.
Overall, I love camping at slough creek!

We have been camping at Slough Creek for decades! The camping sites are wonderful - very spacious. Recently there have been some changes due to funding. That must attribute to the very unsatisfactory condition of the bathrooms and shower houses. If the facility is going to be open, there should be some kind of funding to pay someone to at least make these facilities sanitary! Although there was paper in the bathrooms, not once, in two weeks, was the bathroom cleaned...at all. Some of our camping crew used the shower houses and they were even worse! Next season has to be an improvement!

The campsites are incredibly close together, but the site we had was well suited to use of a wheelchair. The grounds were clean and well-maintained. The light for the restrooms near our site was apparently motion activated, so we didn't have to deal with the light remaining on all night, which was nicer than many sites we have used.

Campground is in the very back. There is a shelter, no “bathroom” like the West Group Site. Dog didn’t get any ticks like the West Group Site, but he got infested with fleas. I realize this is all a part of nature and that’s fine however it is still a pain to deal with.

We had a nice campsite on the water with some shade which was great. We really wish, though, that the firepit locations were better thought out. Ours was at the back where the view to the lake was blocked if sitting by the fire. Since the lake seems to be the main event, that makes no sense. We looked around at other sites and many of the firepits were at the back and also in close proximity to the next-door site.
The bathrooms were not very clean and had no soap. I used the bathroom one morning, leaned over to flush it and the water blew up in my face! Ugh! Guess the water pressure had really built up.

The site we had was nice and level. Some of the sites are not very level but over all are pretty good. I know they have put so many rocks around the banks of the lake to help with erosion, but it makes for difficult fishing if trying to fish from the banks. There are some places you can get to, however, they are so over ridden with weeds which allows for many bugs, tics, and undesirable creatures. The staff are very friendly.
I planned on checking the shower facilities so i could update past reviews but ended up using the one in our camper. In the past, the showers have been so very nasty 😩.
It is a quiet lake and the area is kept pretty clean.

Love the nice shaded campsite and the beautiful view of the lake. The park attendants at Slough Creek are the friendliest we’ve experienced at any Corp campground.

I have camped here for years and the past year I would have to say that the bathrooms are HORRIBLE! Does anyone even clean them. I always stay in south point and worthington (slough creek). If you are paying someone top clean them they are getting paid WAY TOO MUCH! I also have a camper that requires 50amp. You need more 50amp campsites. The gate attendants are fantastic! Mowing has gotten better also.
