Overview

The Delta National Forest glimmers like a great, green jewel surrounded by lazy rivers and spreading agricultural fields. The Delta is a large, contiguous block of bottomland hardwood forest, seasonally flooded timber, and small sloughs draining into the Big and Little Sunflower Rivers in the Yazoo Basin of the Mississippi River. It is the only entirely bottomland hardwood ecosystem in the National Forest System.

Recreation

Enjoy camping, wildlife viewing, hiking, ATV riding, horseback riding, bird and butterfly watching, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, and fishing all within the Delta National Forest.

Facilities

Facilities are spread throughout the Forest. There are four restroom facilities located along FS Roads 715, 717, 720, and 707. All sites are primitive and potable water is available at the Delta Ranger District work center on FSR 703.

The Delta National Forest lies in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley and is surrounded by bayous, rivers, and lakes. The terrain is relatively flat, with majestic Bald Cypress trees and other hardwoods.

Nearby attractions within an hour's drive includes Highway 61, the Mississippi Blues Trail; the Mississippi Mound Trail; Jim Henson Muppet Museum; Vicksburg Military Park; Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Refuge Complex and Holt Collier National Wildlife Refuge; B. B. King Museum; and a host of cultural experiences.

Directions

From Jackson, MS- take I-20 towards Vicksburg; exit 5A towards Rolling Fork (US 61N); turn right on Hwy. 16 and travel for approximately 7 miles; turn right on the Delta National Forest.

All sites are overgrown with fallen trees and crushed picnic tables. Most can not be driven into at all because of absolutely no maintenance being done. DO NOT GO HERE!

Could not find the place from the directions they gave. Might have found it, but could not tell. Nothing was marked and what I found that might have been it was nothing more than a small area that was maybe cleared five years ago. They should be ashamed to charge people.

Fantastic camp spot. We came in from Rolling Fork and the drive through the forest was beautiful. The camp site is right off the highway but hidden in the trees. Lots of wildflowers and butterflies and at night the owls were incredible. We'll definitely be back. Thank you Delta National Forest! Nice picnic table Fire ring with grill grate Plentiful firewood Can hear cars but there's so few it didn't matter.

The stay was ok.. something needs to be done a out the camp sites.. clean up and some lakes need cleaned so you could actually fish off the banks especially if you have kids or grandkids.. would love to if these changes were done

Couldn't find the site. Map showed it right on route 16. Directions said to turn on 703. No roads marked as 703 until deep in the woods. Only sites we found were 18 & 19. Both unaccessible with down limbs in the driveway. Wasted hours and stress driving a camper around sketchy Forest roads just to end up giving up and finding another place to park for the night. A little signage would help.

Great spot at Blue Lake, quiet peaceful, birds chirping in the morning. The water spigot at work station was turned off and the vault bathrooms on site were closed. Some trash at the sites despite the bear proof trash containers present. The area must have had high winds recently, lots of blowdowns visible. You can tell they have down a lot of working cleaning up from the storm and there's a lot of firewood available.
