Overview

The small quaint Aspen Campground offers a peaceful, scenic setting in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado. The campground is located in Routt National Forest at an elevation of 9,052-ft., and is adjacent to Owl Mountain with easy access to OHV and Wilderness trails

Recreation

This campground offers access to many recreational opportunities for the adventurer. OHV and Wilderness hiking are the two most popular options. OHV options include skill levels from beginner to expert riding. For those looking to take it easy, use the Forest Road 740 for scenic forest riding. For those looking for more of a challenge, use the Silver Creek road (780) or Calamity Pass. Those looking for wilderness access, use the Silver Creek, South Fork, Jack Park, Jack Creek, Illinois River, or Illinois Pass Trail Heads. All of these trail heads take you into the Never Summer Wilderness which is the back side of Rocky National Park.

Aspen Campground offers a water station for potable water and two bathrooms.

Aspen Campground sits at the base of Owl mountain tucked away in a grove of aspen trees.

Natural streams and rivers nearby make the area prime Moose territory. Sightings are common, especially during early and late season.

Nearby Attractions

The closest town is Walden, Colorado, about 35 miles from the campsite. Here they offer a public dump station and potable water fill all free of charge. Owl Mountain summit sits at 10,956 feet and is easily accessible by high clearance vehicles.
