Alpine Meadow Campground

Beautiful area with great trails, some paved or gravel. Planes and jets take off directly overhead and are loud between 10 am and 5 pm, intermittently.

Great location for us! At 80+ years old our backpacking days are over but we still love the tent scene…we’ve had motor homes and assorted trailers but now prefer the simplicity of a nice quick setup tent and sitting around the camp fire at night reminiscing…that’s the cats meeoow to us. The campgrounds are clean, not too crowded and even the pit toilets were well maintained. Super friendly camp hosts too…It’s at the south end of the Truckee airport near Martis lake. We are aviation fans so There is lots of biz jet, helicopter and private plane traffic which we like to see. And early in the morning small tow planes launch hi-tech gliders overhead that silently soar the near by mountain ridges. It’s pretty cool! You can charter a site seeing trip for a bird’s eye view and see all the world class skiing resorts that Tahoe has to offer in less than an hour’s flight time…And avoid the car traffic that is inevitable in this world class location. The icing on the cake is that it’s 5 minutes from downtown Truckee and four 5 star restaurants if that’s your bag. Truckee has turned into an upper end resort town while maintaining its historic charm. Yes we know it’s more like glamping but the close by amenities make this campground a 5 star choice. Enjoy🤗👍

Very quite campground among the big pine trees. Limited internet even though you have 5G. Two pit toilets with running water in the sink. Close to the lake and lots of good birding.

Nice campground. Sites fairly spaced apart. Toilets have water and sanitizer and towels and electric outlet

Only saw the camo host when he cleaned the bathrooms which were very clean and well stocked. They had their sign out for On Duty or Off Duty which was great. Nice off the road, quiet camp. We really enjoy camping there and return as much as we can.

Always quiet and peaceful

Site itself was amazing. The vault toilets are getting very full soooo that wasn’t so pleasant. Hopefully they’ll be drained soon. Overall can’t wait to stay here again.

Campground is nice. Pretty small, clean, and quiet. Except for the airport. The airplanes are loud. They were also mining ALL night.

Site 8 has a nice view of the lake. Campground is quiet and clean. We enjoyed our stay.

Thi is a well-kept campground w/nice restrooms & water slickers. The lake is close by & it was clear of algae this time. I will definitely go back.

Nicely laid out campground with well maintained restrooms and bear boxes in each campsite. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is there’s a little road noise from 267 which is a busy hwy. But it is not bad. Just know if you are looking for absolute quiet and solitude this is not the best.

Bathrooms are kept clean with toilet paper and paper towels. Very quiet campground.

Great camp spot. Wish my site was a pull in spot not side of the road, but that’s on me. Bathroom could have been slightly cleaner. But I’ve seen worse.

LOVED camping here. Quiet, campsites spaced well apart. Lots of nice walks and a gorgeous amphitheatre in the center of the campground. I took me a while to find the potable water faucets lol... but there are plenty around the campground. Gets COLD at night! Close to town and a fantastic Raleys Organic supermarket.

The campsites vary from great to bleak (no shade). I posted pictures of every campsite in this nice little campground on Google, etc. I have been there twice including last summer and then three summers ago. I seem to be immune but my friend was affected on both visits by something in the grass (Lymes Disease or whatever) that causes her to have serious red sores lasting for a long time (months) after walking thru the tall grass. As a safety precaution I would recommend NOT leaving the paved trails in case you are not immune to whatever microbial critters are living on/in that grass. I avoided taking shortcuts to get water, etc. and never was affected.

We have stayed here before and enjoyed the campground and being close to Truckee & Lake Tahoe areas.

We were so happy to have found this campground. Matt was a great host and it was a quiet and clean place for us to park out 20 foot trailer for 10 days of bliss. Dog friendly and near Martis Lake, Truckee Legacy trail, Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake. Great location for us!! We biked and hiked and enjoyed a walk on the Lake Tahoe path just a short trip away. We’ll come back here whenever we can. It was wonderful.

We really like this campground. Sites have good spacing. Easy to reserve a site. Quiet and clean.

Spots are far apart, quiet, clean, can walk to Martis Lake, or drive across to Martis Valley for a nice hike

As always our stay at Alpine Meadows campground was relaxing and very enjoyable. I did rain quite a bit of the time but is to be expected in the fall. The facilities were clean and trash bin secured from wildlife and clean. You do have to make reservations and even in early October the campground was almost full.

Good amount of space in the site and driveway relative to our expectations from the photos. Our site had more than one flat spot for tents, which was helpful. No good spots for a hammock in this particular site, but there could have been a spot across the loop road or in some of the other sites. Nice to have a water available throughout the campground, as well as a sink with running water in the restroom. There was low-medium level noise from the airport, highway, and train, but that's to be expected based on a quick look at the map. Not your place for a true wilderness experience, but on the other hand a convenient location relative to town.

Great location for exploring northern Lake Tahoe area.

Mid-week late in the season, it was a lovely place to stay. The pull-through at site 13 is a widening in the road and probably not wide enough for slide outs but plenty for a pop-up trailer. The view from the campsite takes in the dam, meadow, and lake. Just across the dam is the entrance to the Waddell Ranch Preserve, popular for hiking and mountain biking.

Only concern I have was the Camp Host was never around, as their sign say Off Duty for the time we were there. We had no issues, because it was more of an off season with few campers. Bathrooms were clean except the ladies faucet in the sink ran and over flowed if it wasn't turned off all the way. We enjoy the quietness of not hearing road noise. We enjoy the lear jets and Cesena planes that fly over to land at the airport.

This campground is a great place to stay if you are in the Tahoe/Truckee area. It is conveniently located close to Truckee off highway 267 which runs over Brockway Summit to Kings Beach on the northern shores of Tahoe. There are a number of great trails in the area or within a short drive from the campground. However, it is also located adjacent to the Truckee airport as well as the train tracks. I was awakened by a trains horns at 6:45 followed by a jet taking off at 7am. Though the restrooms were clean, they looked a bit worn down.

My pull thru site #13 was adequate and level although narrow. A water spigot was close across the road and they are widely spaced elsewhere. There is a fill spot at the entrance. Sites are well spaced and camp is peaceful. However, there was no supervised check-in so I guess it is all honor system, nor security such as a camp host driving around. In fact, no campground employees were seen over four days. There is but one garbage dumpster for the entire campground. It is near site 18. The bathrooms were clean enough and plumbing worked for sink. Toilet was not smelly and there was adequate TP. Cell service for AT&T was mostly available, but down at times, mostly in the afternoon.

Campgrounds are exceptional clean, including the bathrooms and well maintain. Camp Host are one of the BEST with being helpful , approachable, and just friendly. Great location for solitude and relaxing in the outdoors.
