Our first visit to Ballinger was a success! We loved our site (#1), which was set back with the remaining campground spread out in front of you. Very private. We have a toy hauler so we didn't use the bathroom facilities but if you will need those, site #1 is too far. The riding was great. Lots of Woopsie-doo's but after the first mile or two it smooths out and there are plenty trails to explore. Many trail markers are missing or faded which makes navigation difficult is some places. Be careful to not end up on a trail more difficult than your ability. Trail #24 was fun, varied, had beautiful views and even some shaded areas. There is a trail map at the entrance. It can also be down loaded. We did have some cell service. Not reliable but we could text and receive intermittently. We were lucky to have great weather, very little wind, but it's an area where the winds could be bad. Don't leave your awning out! We saw a fair amount of wildlife and wild flowers. So many lizards, two beautiful ring necked snakes, rabbits, road runners, quail, hawks, owls, and more. Others reported seeing rattlers. The biggest negative....FOXTAILS! The hills are covered in them. Wear high top boots and long pants that don't allow foxtails to stick and keep dogs at home!

The camp site was excellent, the road into the camp is terrible 5 mph due to pot holes. Please use some green sticker money to correct this problem.

We have been going to Ballinger for years and really enjoy it. It is great to see that they have finally made some improvements to the sites and put in new restrooms that were needed for years.
