Webb Mtn. Lookout Rental
Overview
Webb Mountain Lookout is perched at 5,988 feet atop its namesake mountain in Kootenai National Forest. The lookout was built in 1959 and used as an observation point for fighting forest fires for over 40 years. The structure rests on a concrete block basement and encompasses 196 square feet. The lookout is accessible by car and the roads are well maintained; however, the last quarter mile of the access road is steep and rocky and not suited for low clearance vehicles. This rustic cabin offers a few amenities, but guests should be prepared to pack in most of their own supplies and gear.
Recreation
The lookout is located in the Koocanusa Area, which offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Koocanusa Reservoir is the major recreation attraction in this geographic area, providing ideal settings for large watercraft and sailing. The reservoir contains a large and stable population of Kookanee salmon, rainbow trout, bull trout, West slope cutthroat trout and burbot. Big game hunting is also possible around the reservoir.
The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail is accessible from Webb Mountain. It descends the mountain and crosses Lake Koocanusa Bridge, meandering along the east side of the Koocanusa Reservoir.
Facilities
The lookout cabin is surrounded by windows on all sides and is encircled by a catwalk. It can accommodate up to 5 people on 1 twin size bed with mattress and 4 additional mattresses. Other amenities include a wood stove, table, benches and cleaning gear.An outhouse is located nearby and a campfire ring is provided at the base of the tower. Firewood is available.
Water and electricity are not available. Guests need to bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking and washing.
Items such as a cook stove, cooking gear, bedding, lanterns or flashlights, matches, extra toilet paper, first aid supplies, trash bags, dish soap, towels and an ice chest are not available. Guests are expected to pack out their trash and clean the cabin before leaving.
Natural Features
This lookout has many nice locations to enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery, which includes views of Koocanusa Reservoir and Mount Henry. Mountain peaks stretch out as far as the eye can see, and the surrounding area is covered in mixed evergreen forest. From this altitude, guests can enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets and starry skies at night.Kootenai National Forest supports populations of deer, elk, moose, grizzly and black bears, wolves and mountain lions (bear safety). A variety of smaller mammals and birds can also be found.

Don't go though Yaak, go through Libby! Many down trees made the road slow going and tight squeezes. Views were great and outhouse was good. Views were great. Be prepared for visitors from the trail. We enjoyed those visits, but understand some may not. Others walked up from the gate. We saw no huckleberry bushes. Thanks to all those who keep it clean for the next person.

This is a well maintained lookout. We had plenty of mattresses to sleep on! I did not see a cookstove so make sure to plan accordingly. Drive right up to the facility with a high clearance vehicle or within walking distance with a lower clearance. My RAV4 got within 0.2 miles. Bring your own toilet paper as the outhouse gets used often by thru hikers.

Awesome spot to spend the weekend! It was easy to find and liked having the gate locked below. We were able to drive right up to the lookout in my truck as the last part of the road is ruff. Views are great and had cool storm one of the nights! Visited by only a few groups of people. Great access to Webb mountain trail to bike and hike too!

Have not been to Webb Mountain lookout for over 10 years. I liked the improvements they made such as the vault toilet and handrailing for the stairs. Firewood was nicely stocked. Facility was clean and had good equipment. Tile around stove needs repair but not an issue for using it. We rented it for 6/25. Almost the longest day. Which was good for hiking but bad for star gazing. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises as would be expected from the location. Be aware that the area is ALL loose rocks which can be treacherous footing. Be sure to pack in water. Also, the road to the lookout is very rocky just before you arrive, so a high clearance vehicle is best. Also, people are likely to visit the lookout at any time. So do not expect privacy. We also brought our own lock for when we left the lookout for hikes. The combo on the door is common knowledge on the internet.

Great view, comfortable mattress, cooking utensils provided. Lovely hiking area. Suggestion: hike the last 100 yards. Road gets rough at the very end. 😎

Web is an awesome lookout with spectacular views of Koocanusa reservoir and lots of mountains. It sits on a tall concrete block foundation with only one flight of stairs to go up. The vault toilet is a short walk away and is very roomy and clean.
The access road get a little rough near the top so a vehicle with good clearance is a must. There is a very nice trail a short distance from the lookout for anyone wanting to hike around.
Be sure to bring water and warm clothes and sleeping bag as this is just like camping and can get cold at night. It was helpful to have the wood stove for the chilly mornings.

Webb Mountain Lookout is a fun place to visit and spend the night. We lucked out with fabulous weather and gorgeous sunset and sunrise. It's very basic, kind of like camping. This lookout sits on a block foundation so there is only one flight of stairs to the deck. The vault toilet nearby is very clean and roomy. It has a beautiful view of Koocanusa Reservoir, the town of Eureka, and all the cool mountains in the region. In the distance you can see the peaks of Glacier Park, the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness area near Libby, and Mount Henry in Yaak. The access road is rough near the lookout so a vehicle with good clearence is a must.

What a gem, such a beautiful spot. 360-degree views of the beautiful Kootenai National Forest! We had a wonderful stay at this amazing old fire lookout. We even had a few "hike in" visitors and welcomed them in to take a look around. The lookout was well maintained and clean, thanks to all the other folks who have stayed here in the past.

Clean lookout tower with some mice. The road is getting pretty brushy before the gate and scratched up one of our trucks.

Caught the Northern Lights from Webb Mtn Lookout in the early AM hours of 8/8. They were the brightest and best I’ve ever seen them. Webb always treats me good.

Beautiful location and well-maintained. However, PNT thru hikers have compromised the lookout. Code has been shared online. Hikers will let themselves in, even if they know it is occupied. Do not leave any belongings in the lookout when you leave. This is the second time we have had an issue with PNT hikers letting themselves in…even when the faculty is locked.

Still one of my favorite lookout towers. Easy drive up with only a bit of rough road at the last 100 yards. Great idea is wipe down your mattresses and give them 30 min in the sun and wind to help ensure they are all clean. This lookout shows a lot of love by those who frequent it, let's keep it looking good. Great spot to get time lapse video of the sun setting over the Tobacco Valley. Note, there is no cookstove at this tower so bring your own! (atleast as of July 2020) Axe, hatchet, lots of items up there to use by guests. Expect wind outside, when the sun comes up it warms up quick inside even during the morning. Guests can adjust the airflow easily with the windows.

Beautiful lookout and amazing view of the lake below. Not as well furnished as some lookouts so bring all your own gear, but lots of mattresses and a sweet little wood stove with tons of firewood already cut. Gets windy up there but the stove takes the chill right out.

The views were spectacular! Headed up there was a small fire not too far from us, so there was a bit of smoke. We were worried at first, but as soon as we got to the lookout, the smoke had cleared and the views were breathtaking. The night sky was clear and filled with stars that I'd only seen in pictures. It was the most perfect "stay-cation" and would recommend 10/10.

We've been coming to Webb Mountain Lookout for years and we always have a blast. The views are incredible, and the stars are awesome. The last 1/4 mile of the road is extremely rough, so make sure you drive a high clearance vehicle. Water is not available on site, so make sure you bring plenty for drinking, washing, and cleaning. We always bring extra because we have run into thirsty hikers on more than one occasion.
