The Catahoula Hummingbird and Butterfly Garden was started in 1995 as a project between the US Forest Service and Gardeners for Wildlife, a not-for-profit group of active local residents committed to environmental volunteerism. The goal of the project was to create a watchable wildlife recreation opportunity emphasizing education and appreciation of nature. The garden attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and other plant-loving insects in an interpreted setting that is inviting to the general public.
