Crags Campground

Overview

Crags Campground is located just 10 miles from Bridgeport, California, at an elevation of 7,000 feet. The Twin Lakes area is close by, offering boating, fishing, hiking and horseback riding opportunities.

Recreation

Robinson Creek offers good rainbow trout fishing and can be easily accessed from within the campground. Numerous hiking trails are in the vicinity, including the popular Robinson Creek Trail.

Facilities

The campground contains one group site that can accommodate up to 45 people, with picnic and serving tables, grills, food storage lockers, a campfire circle and ample parking. Several single and double-family sites, some of which are accessible, are also available.

Flush toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. Firewood is available for purchase from the host. Roads and parking spurs are paved.

Robinson Creek South Campground is nearby, where educational programs are held on weekends from July 4 through Labor Day.

Natural Features

The campground offers views of the rugged Sawtooth Ridge, with craggy peaks topping out at over 10,500 feet in elevation. A forest of Jeffrey pines towers over the campground, offering limited shade. Sagebrush and summer wildflowers dot the area.

Nearby Attractions

Upper and Lower Twin Lakes are within walking distance, offering beautiful mountain scenery, boating, canoeing and fishing for Kokanee salmon and rainbow and brown trout. Twin Lakes Resort is just across the road.

The rugged and scenic Hoover Wilderness Area can be accessed from the Twin Lakes area and offers additional trails for hiking and horseback riding.

Charges & Cancellations

Reservation sites will be held until check out time (12 pm) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the Campground Manager will be able to modify your reservation.

Fees

Camping fees on single sites include one vehicle. Extra vehicle fee of $6 per vehicle per night is due at kiosk in the campground. All extra vehicles must fit on the asphalt at the campsite. (Double, Triple and Group sites have additional vehicles within the camping fees).

Directions

From Bridgeport, California, take Highway 395 and turn south at Twin Lakes Road and travel 9.6 miles. Turn left onto the paved road across from the Twin Lakes Resort Laundromat. Travel approximately 0.6 miles, go across Robinson Creek Bridge and turn left into campground.

Stay Limit

Check in from 2 PM, check out by 12 PM.

Craggs is a family tradition for many many folks. Us included. Not thrilled with the masses that the Mono village advertising are bringing in, but I suppose that's business. The creek is fished out shortly after being stocked.

The campsite was absolutely perfect, clean, level, and shade. The hosts Roger and Cathy were very accommodating. They would make numerous trips to the campsites checking on peoples needs and posting site status.

It’s a beautiful campground with plenty of space between campsites! We’ve been camping there for over 30 years. The campsites and restrooms were immaculately maintained! The campground hosts, Roger and Cathy, were amazing!

Beautiful site of the mountains, walkable distance to lake, ample space between sites, clean, helpful hosts. Be prepared for pit toilets, only 1 of tge restrooms has running water and flush toilets.

Friendly campground hosts, clean campground site and bathrooms. One of bathrooms had flush toilets. Firewood and bear boxes available. Lots of sun at our site ( 24) but other sites had trees to provide shade in heat of day. Large sites so did not feel crowded. Resort type camps are near by so can get basic supplies for food, fishing and outdoor activities as well as boat rentals. We did two beautiful day hikes: Horse Creek trail with beautiful wildflowers in June and a spectacular waterfall; Barney Lake trail is longer but nice hike to high alpine lake. No cell phone coverage.

Be prepared for all types of weather conditions. Campground is kept in top notch conditions. Bathrooms always clean and stocked. Friendly camp host. Fishing is great! I have been camping here for 65 years! I aways come back to Craggs. Happy camping all!

Clean campground that looked well maintained. 10 minute walk to the lake. Even though not next to creek, it also meant beautiful views of surrounding mountains.

Nice campground next to a lake and creek which is great for dipping in on a hot summer day. The main restrooms have flush toilets and are well kept. Some other restrooms only have pit toilets. One star short of the 5 for this rating is because one day they covered up all the water hydrants due to water shortage.

The asphalt leading up to Crags and around the loop is terrible and will rattle everything in your RV. this should be replaced or at the very least filled in with sand. very easy to and cheap fix. it's a very nice campground without being right on your next door neighbor's Site.

Love this place! Have gone a few times now and will continue to return! Be ready for inclement weather, it was supposed to be in the 80s all weekend but it did rain off and on throughout the evening/night. Still had an amazing time, we’ll def be back soon!

Love Twin Lakes area. Crags is our favorite campground there, and we stayed in 8 & 10. If you have solar needs as we do, it's perfect. Close to the lake and the Crags up on the mountain are just stunning. The campground is clean and well taken care of. Will return!

Wonderful campground, walking distance to creek and lakes. Nice to have the store up the road with laundromats and showers close by. We love crags it’s quiet and beautiful. Plenty of space between campsites is a plus.

I personally have issue with the generator policy. One guy in a big motor home ran his generator starting right at 6 am for 2 hours. Then at night starting at 8 would idle his motorhome till sometimes 10 o’clock or run his generator. Everyday that I was there. Complete disregard for the surrounding campers. Been camping for almost 20 years. Needs to be more reasonable policy.

Our favorite Eastern Sierra campground offers good spacing between sites for an open area and large tree shade in many sites. Great views of the Sawtooths above Twin Lakes, especially in the early morning.

We spent 4 days and 3 nights and just loved it! We had rain showers in the afternoon and evening but it was refreshing and kept it cool. Such a beautiful location!

Not a fan of generator hours 6 am to 10 pm. This campground is loud with generators before sun up and well after sundown. Our neighbors ran their generator past 10. There is no enforcement of generator rules. Totally ruins the camping experience.

We’ve stayed at the Sawtooth Loop for several years now. Always at the same site. The campground hosts are always helpful and courteous. This visit we noticed a decline in the bathroom maintenance. While the toilets were kept clean, the spider webs were starting to take over. Overhead, behind the stall doors, you get the drift. The sites were tidy and nicely raked, though the fire pits had a considerable accumulation of ash and leftover chars.

Calm little campground near a lake. Space per campsite was very good. Grill, fire pit, and table all in good shape. Bathrooms were very clean. Wood for sale. Negatives: no showers, not much tree cover, scenery is Nevada desert (even though in CA), mostly sage brush and bitter brush, but the campground is nestled in a modest valley giving some scenery. Perfectly good place to relax, but not any super activities or scenery.

I CAN'T WRITE MUCH EXCEPT JOY WAS VERY HELPFUL AND PLEASANT AS MY WIFE HAD A AHLZHEIMERS ATTACK AND WE WERE ONLY THERE FOR A DAY AND A HALF AND HAD TO LEAVE. IT WAS HARD FOR ME BUT I WILL SURVIVE AND GO BACK AGAIN. THANKS

Loved this campground! Great neighbors which one of gave us some freshly caught trout! close to a creek that my pup loved to swim in and a 10min walk to the lake! Clean bathrooms and clean campsites! Nicely spread out surrounded by mountains! Camp host was nice but if you plan on buying firewood from the host be prepared with either cash or a check apparently. No digital cash or card. I believe it was about $7/bundle. The general store across the street from the lake has a lot of stuff but they close at 6pm. We’ll definitely be back!

Our experience at the Crags CG was great (we were there when the tropical storm came up from the Gulf of Mexico and Palm Springs in August of 2023, so it was wet as hell, but that of course can't be blamed on the campground). The CG hosts were helpful and friendly, and everyone we met there was also super friendly. The setting is stunning when you have a clear view up to the Yosemite National Park border. The creek is pretty and there are plenty of easy hikes in the are, e.g., a walk to one of the Twin Lakes. The campsites are spread out, which is great no matter where you are, but especially here because many of the CG denizens had huge trailers and ran generators often. This is usually not my kind of place, but the setting and the friendliness of those involved made it OK. The campsites all tend to have a nice cleared area for tents and a table, bear locker, and fire pit. We really liked the look of the place—the CG is sparsely populated with trees and has a nice desert floor. I would definitely camp here again.

We've stayed at this campground at least 12 times in the last 12 years and have always found it to offer an excellent experience. It's close to Lower Twin Lake which offers great kayaking (5mph limit) and excellent fishing if you're so inclined.

The cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. I don't know who cleans them (river elves?), but they're spotless from morning til night despite lots of people pooping in there. This campground was quiet and pretty and smelled wonderful as it's covered in sagebrush.
