Thibaut Point

Overview

Thibaut Point Park sits on the shores of Harry S. Truman Lake in the hills of western Missouri.

Visitors enjoy fishing, hunting, swimming and boating.

Click here for the Harry S. Truman Lake virtual tour.

Recreation

Thibaut Point offers great opportunities to get out on the water. Boating and swimming are popular activities.

The park is an excellent fishing location. Anglers find crappie, largemouth bass and blue and flathead catfish. Truman Lake is also a popular destination for tournament fishermen.

Facilities

This park offers family and group campsites with and without electric hookups. Two day-use group picnic shelters with lights and electric outlets are also available, making the area perfect for large parties or family functions.

This campground offers 44 sites total. 39 of the sites are 50-amp with water, and 5 sites are primitive.

Group camp A offers 19, 30-amp sites along with a centrally located pavilion for gathering. Group camp C is all primitive with plenty of flat areas for tents. It also has a pavilion for gathering and a large fire pit.

Amenities include flush and pit toilets, showers, drinking water, playground, basketball goal, dump station, swimming beach, and a boat ramp.

Natural Features

Harry S Truman Reservoir lies among the rolling hills and rocky bluffs of the Ozark Plateau. Mature hardwoods of Oak and Hickory with cedar trees mixed in cover the area.

Wildlife such as whitetail deer, turkey, hawks, ospreys, eagles, and many different water birds can be found in and around the park.

An abundance of fish such as crappie, bass, walleye, paddlefish, blue and channel catfish can also be found in Harry S Truman Reservoir. Approximately 8,800 acres of standing timber were left in the lake to provide quality aquatic habitat.

Nearby Attractions

The 950 miles of shoreline around Truman Lake provide plentiful opportunities for fun in the outdoors. Many parks surround the lake, including Harry S. Truman State Park.

The Harry S. Truman Visitor Center sits atop Kaysinger Bluff and provides a spectacular view of the dam and reservoir. Exhibits provide information about the rich history of the Osage River Valley from pre-civilization to modern day. Waterfowl, bald eagles and turkey vultures are commonly seen from the observation deck.

Our campsite was quiet and peaceful, with very little activity around us. We went in the middle of the week, so it was less occupied, and we found that we really enjoyed that. The campground was clean, the host was helpful, and we enjoyed our stay. We'll be back!

My family and I book our spots at Thibaut Point every year for a family reunion weekend and it is the perfect spot! There is a nice newer playground and swim beach, the boat ramp is easy to get to. Campsites are very nice size to camp and spend time outside at the picnic table or firepit. There is a big pavilion that we have our large family gathering at which is great. Overall we enjoy staying here every year and will continue to do so!

The guys that were mowing the grass when we were there done the best job and we’re picking up all the branches that were in the yard and was aware of all of the campers and blew the grass away from them

Overall the stay was pleasant, but only one thing that was a bit of a hindrance was the lack of a working water faucet, there was one that looked like it required a ratchet to operate which we didn't have on hand, and another one was just a pipe only with no faucet at all.

Clean & well maintained campground. Plenty of room between campsites. Friendly campground host. Sites have plenty of shade. Will definitely come again. Near Warsaw and about 20 minutes from Harry Truman State Park for those who like to hike.

With this being a Corp Park, one expects to have air conditioned/heated shower houses that are also storm shelters; 50 amp, water and sewer hookups for campers, etc. In this park A - loop has lost many camp sites, and due to camping becoming more popular each year, there is more pressure to become a better park. Also there is Group area that needs help, also. The water contains much discolorment--taste that is not something we have had to contend with previously. Also believe there should be spaces on the water or overlooking it. We really love Thibeau Park, but it needs updates!!

Thibaut Point is one of the best campgrounds I have experienced! The grounds are very nice and the campground staff, Tonya and Jeff, are the most helpful and friendly staff. They made my stay special!

Needed all my blocks to get level (side to side). 30 amp service didn’t work; fortunately I had purchased a 50 amp to 30 amp converter, allowing us to hook up. We had to leave Saturday morning but had to pay thru the next day because of your rules.

Nice park close to Warsaw. Site B11 had large crushed rock and needed leveling. There is a large covered picnic area in the turn around loop. The campground water pump went out on the day I was leaving, but I had bottled water to use. They tell you to check in at the booth for a tag, but no hours were posted so I didn't get one.

Our site was beautiful, roomy, and shady. The problems with Loop A are: no water hookups; dump station is closed down, so can't use sewer tote because the station at Loop B is too far to safely haul to; no facilities beyond a chemical toilet. Why does Loop B have all the amenities while Loop A had practically nothing??

Tonya the camp Host is awesome !!!! Custodians not so much. The B loop pavilion is full of cob webs and needed to swept or have a leaf blower clean it. The bathrooms smelled really bad in B Loop and Boat ramp. Some of trees need to be trimmed for Tall Campers and Boat Canopies along roadways in campground.

Need to clean the Pavilion better and empty trash daily. We timed them they was there for 5:00 minutes and left. Check out time needs to be Two o’clock not six that’s way too late. Also need a very small kind of night by the bathrooms it’s so dark down there at the restrooms. Doesn’t need to be big. Thanks.

The bathrooms & showers were not clean. The beach was closed. Some spots had little shade which made it hard to stay cool in 90° weather even with AC. I would not return to this campground. The positive is that the other campers were friendly!
