Run and Taskers Gap OHV Trail System provides 36 miles of rugged adventure.
Advanced riders will find challenges in steep, rocky and narrow trails, while
others can enjoy trails that were once forest roads.  All travelers will find
mountain vistas, scenic rock outcroppings and the cool shade of deep forest.
This trail has opportunities for Jeeps and other 4-wheeled drive vehicles,
UTVs, ATVs, motorcycles, and electronic mountain bikes.

## Overview

Elizabeth Furnace Recreation Area offers forested trails, campsites and open
grassy picnic areas along the tranquil Passage Creek. Enjoy hiking the Pig
Iron and Charcoal trail and learn how iron was historically mined and smelted.
Spend the day fishing from a stocked trout stream, grilling out at a picnic
spot, or taking a stroll across the swinging bridge to view the historic
cabin.

Camp Roosevelt Campground is the site of the first Civilian Conservation Corps
Camp in the Nation. Follow the path through the CCC camp and view the
foundations where the actual buildings once stood. Proud and lofty oak trees
create the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a simple picnic or camping out with
friends or family.

This location is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Visitors
are required to physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a
site. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a

## Overview

Trout Pond Recreation Area boasts two bodies of water, Rock Cliff Lake and
Trout Pond. Relax on a sandy mountain beach or fish for stocked trout while
relaxing along the cool waters of Rock Cliff Lake.  
  
Trout Pond, home to native Brook trout, is the only natural lake in West
Virginia. A designated swimming area, easy lakeside trails, and a children's
playground make this a perfect family destination.

## Recreation

A trail surrounding the entire lake provides bank fishing access at Rock Cliff
Lake. All types of boating from motor to sailboats are welcome.  
  
Hike the Trout Pond Loop trail, an easy 4-mile excursion, with an optional
2-mile side route, to an overlook of Rockcliff Lake. For a more challenging
hike, a connecting trail provides a steep climb up Long and Devil's Hole
Mountains.

## Facilities

Campsites come with a campfire ring and picnic table, and some of have
electric hookups. Hot showers and flush toilets are an easy walk away from
each site.  
  
The day-use area includes a white-sand swim beach, boat ramp, showers,
playground and 30 picnic sites.

## Natural Features

Rock Cliff Lake is a 17-acre man-made lake with a maximum depth of 36 feet and
an average depth of 12 feet. Trout Pond, the naturally formed lake, was
created by a sinkhole that filled with mountain stream water and run-off from
Long Mountain. Trout Pond can vary in waterflow. Please visit the Forest
Service website for our most up to date conditions.

cracks, openings, or hinges that would allow a bear to gain entry by biting or
pulling with its claws. Wood containers are not considered bear resistant
unless they are reinforced with metal.

  2. ''Food or refuse" means any nourishing substance, solid or liquid (excluding baled hay or water) or refuse thereof, that is not native to the immediate area, which is or may be eaten or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, or promote growth of any person or animal.
  3. "Stored Properly" means

  * Stored in a bear-resistant container or,
  * Stored in a closed vehicle constructed of solid, nonpliable material or,
  * Suspended at least ten feet clear of the ground at all points and four feet horizontally from any supporting limb or pole.

**ORDER NO. 08-08-00-23-9**

**RECREATIONAL OCCUPANCY AND USE**

Pursuant to Title 16 U.S.C. § 551 and Title 36 C.F.R. § 261.50, the following
acts are prohibited in Recreation Areas, Day use areas, and other Developed
Sites on the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. This Forest
Order is effective from the date signed by the Forest Supervisor until August
30, 2028, or until terminated by an authorized Forest Service official,
whichever occurs first.

**Prohibitions. The following acts are prohibited:**

  1. Camping or maintaining a campsite for a period of time exceeding 14 days in any 30-day period. [Ref. § 261.58(a)]
  2. Entering or using a developed recreation site or portion thereof when posted closed. [Ref.

§ 261.58(b)]

  3. Camping in or within 300 feet of any developed parking area or boat ramp. [Ref. § 261.58(e)]
  4. Operating a gasoline engine powered electrical generator between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., except in designated areas. [Ref. § 261.10(i)]
  5. Occupying an individual campsite with more than eight (8) persons and two (2) tents. [Ref. § 261.58(f)]
  6. Parking or leaving a vehicle or trailer in violation of posted instructions. [Ref. § 261.58(g)]
  7. Parking or leaving a vehicle outside a parking space assigned to one’s own camp unit. [Ref. § 261.58(h)]
  8. Possessing, parking or leaving more than two (2) vehicles, except motorcycles or bicycles, per camp unit. [Ref. § 261.58(i)]
  9. Swimming or being in the water within 100 feet of a designated boat ramp, unless loading or unloading a boat. [Ref. § 261.58(k)]
  10. Swimming or being in a designated swimming area at any time except during day light hours. [Ref. § 261.58(k)]
  11. Possessing glass containers in a designated swimming area. [Ref. § 261.58(k)]
  12. Swimming outside of a designated swimming area, located in a developed recreation area. [Ref. § 261.58(k)]
  13. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, BB gun, gas gun or archery equipment from, into or across any parking area, trail, boat ramp, camping site or National Forest System road. [Ref. § 261.58(m)]
  14. Possessing or operating a boat within a designated swimming area. [Ref. § 261.58(n)]
  15. Operating a gas power motorboat on the following lakes:
     * Sherando Lake;
     * High Knob Lake;
     * Cave Mountain Lake
  16. Being in a developed recreation area between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. except a person who is camping or who is visiting a person camping in that area. [Ref. § 261.58(u)]
  17. Fishing in designated swimming area. [Ref. § 261.58(v)]
  18. Riding, hitching, tethering or hobbling a horse or other saddle or pack animal in violation of posted instructions. [Ref. § 261.58(aa)]
  19. Possessing any alcoholic beverages in the beach, picnic, swimming areas and/or parking lot or in violation of state law. [Ref. § 261.58(bb)]
  20. Possessing a dog, except for those on a leash not longer than six feet, or otherwise under physical restrictive control 36 CFR 261.16(j).

**Exemptions: Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. 261.50(e), the following persons are
exempt from this Order:**

  1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of their official duty.
  3. Persons with a Forest Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order, Form FS-7700-48, specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.

Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than
$5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for
not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC § 551 and 18 USC §§ 3559, 3571 and
3581.
