## Overview

Located 20 minutes south of Paisley, Oregon, Marsters Spring is a rustic and
peaceful campground along the banks of the Chewaucan River. The water level
stays consistent on this river, providing good habitat for fish.

Anglers can cast their line for catch-and-release trout. A creek flows amid
sagebrush and through a mixed stand of alder, juniper and ponderosa pines. The
Chewaucan Crossing trailhead is just one and a half miles up the road which
accesses the National Recreation Trail #160.

Ten widely spaced campsites offer privacy. All sites have picnic tables and
fire grates, and there are two vault toilets. A hand pump gives access to
fresh water during open season. Trash service is provided throughout the
summer months.

Marsters Spring Campground

surrounded by a high desert, pine, and juniper setting. Amenities include a
vault toilet, parking area, adequate trailer turnaround, horse corrals, and
each of the five campsites has a picnic table and fire ring.

The Campbell Lake Campground offers camping, a picnic area and boat launch in
a high mountain lake setting located one hour and 20 minutes southwest of
Paisley, Oregon.

There are 18 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings, three vault toilets,
potable water, and garbage service from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Campbell Lake, lined with grassy and pebbly shores, is stocked with rainbow
trout, making it ideal for fishing, swimming, and boating. There is also a
boat ramp for non-motorized or electric motor boats. Additional picnic tables
and another vault toilet are located in the day use area.

Exploring is easy to do from Campbell Lake, as the Lakes Trail System is
accessible from the campground. You can hike, ride horses, or mountain bike on
interconnected loops of varying lengths between Campbell Lake and Deadhorse
Lake.

Bald Butte Lookout is perched atop the windy summit of Bald Butte in the
Fremont-Winema National Forest in south-central Oregon. It is surrounded by
forested hillsides and expansive views.  
  
The lookout was built in 1931 and served as a Forest Service fire detection
site for over 50 years. It was constructed from an Aladdin L4 ground-mounted
lookout kit in which all of the pieces were pre-cut in six-foot lengths or
less so the entire kit could be packed by horses into the remote site. The
total cost of the structure at the time was $668.49 and only took a few days
to assemble.  
  
At one time, hundreds of these types of lookouts were in service throughout
the Pacific Northwest. Today only two such structures remain in Oregon,
providing a unique lodging experience for guests seeking recreation and
relaxation.  
  
The lookout offers basic amenities, though for guests to enjoy their
experience completely, they must bring several of their own supplies.

## Recreation

Hiking, birding, stargazing and wildlife viewing are popular activities. Bald
Butte Trail is a quiet all-season trail that offers a variety of terrain and
wildlife viewing opportunities. Hikers traverse large open meadows filled with
summer wildflowers, heavily wooded forests and ridgetop scrambles along Oak
Ridge Trail and Surveyor's Ridge Trail, overlooking the Hood River Valley.
Trails in the Gearhart Mountain Wilderness are also nearby.  
  
At night the lookout provides an ideal setting for stargazing, as
constellations and planets put on a dazzling display.

## Facilities

The 14' x 14' lookout is furnished with two cots, a table, bench and storage
cabinets. It is also equipped with a propane heater, cook stove, and lights.
An outdoor picnic table and an accessible vault toilet are also on-site.  
There is no water on-site, so guests must bring sufficient supplies for
drinking, cooking and washing. Guests must also provide their own sleeping
bags, linens, towels, dish soap, matches, cooking gear, first aid kit, toilet
paper, ice cooler and garbage bags. Although lighting is available, it is
recommended that guests bring an additional light source in case of
emergencies.

Fremont National Forest is known for its towering snow-capped peaks, volcanic
landscapes, wide-open sage basins, scenic vistas and wild places where
visitors can still find solitude.  
  
Nearby Gearhart Wilderness offers 22,823 acres of scenic views and primitive
recreational opportunities. Throughout the remote area, streams rush through
narrow meadows and Blue Lake lies nestled beneath a canopy of mixed-conifer
forests. Rock formations cap most of the high elevation ridge tops.

campground ideally located along peaceful Dairy Creek. The stream flows
through the middle of the campground, offering fishing opportunities for
rainbow trout.

At an elevation of 5289, this campground features nine camping sites. All
campsites include picnic tables and fire rings, but no garbage receptacles.

There is one vault toilet and water is available at Clear Springs Forest Camp,
approximately 1.5 miles to the west on Forest Service Road 047.

Besides fishing, hiking on the nearby trails, and relaxing at Happy Camp,
remember to bring your horseshoes to use at the horseshoe pits or picnic under
the historic shelters. The picnic shelters were built in the 1930's by
Civilian Conservation Corps.

This site borders a riparian area along Dairy Creek and has a diverse mix of
ponderosa pines, willows, and grasses. This campground offers hand-pumped
potable water, one vault toilet, and five camping sites with picnic tables and
fire grates.

It's a great location for destination camping, relaxing, and leisure. Please
be respectful of surrounding private lands.

pretty views of Steens Mountain and Mount Shasta. There is one vaulted toilet

post.

This is a good choice for a stop-over, as Moss Meadows has no corrals and no
options for short trail rides. It's about 20 miles from Moss Meadows to
Currier Springs on the Fremont National Recreation Trail. Another option is to
ride west from Moss Meadow along the road for about five miles to the
Chewaucan River. You need to get permission to ride along the river, as it
passes through private land. There are signs posted with contact info or you
can obtain phone numbers from the Paisley Ranger District.

Moss Meadows Horse Camp

Clear Spring is located southwest of Paisley, Oregon and can be reached in
approximately one hour. At an elevation of about 5400 feet, this campground is
situated right along Dairy Creek.

There is one picnic table and fire ring, and a variety of dispersed camping
spaces.

This camp is primarily used by hunters during hunting season. You can fish for
rainbow trout in Dairy Creek.

There is potable water, but no garbage service. Remember to "pack it in, pack
it out."

Clear Spring&nbsp;is located southwest of Paisley, Oregon and can be reached in approximately one&nbsp;hour. Scenic Sprague River. Lodgepole pine trees, rock outcroppings, and riparian
meadows characterize the landscape.

All seven campsites are close enough to hear the river riffling by. Campground
amenities include picnic tables, fire grates, one vault toilet, and potable
water.

Just one mile east of the campground is the Lee Thomas Trailhead, which
accesses Deadhorse Rim Trail #139.

Located one hour 30 minutes southwest of Paisley, Oregon, Lee Thomas Campground is located right on the banks of the North Fork of the Wild and Scenic Sprague River. Lee Thomas Campground

Located one hour west of Paisley, Oregon, Currier Springs horse camp lies in
an open meadow. Currier Springs features four camping sites with campfire
rings, and picnic tables.  It also boasts a newer corral with four stalls,
built by the Back Country Horsemen, that can accommodate four to eight horses.
Horses can be watered, using the historical trough constructed by the Civilian
Conservation Corps.

From Currier Springs you can access the Fremont National Recreation Trail for
miles of backcountry riding. You'll view spectacular mountain scenery as you
ride along the top of a 2,000 feet high fault block rim, known as Winter Rim
or Winter Ridge. As the trail heads west to Hager Mountain, there are vistas
of Summer Lake. It's about a 29 mile ride to Antler Horse Camp.

remote and restful campground overlooking the North Fork of the Wild and
Scenic Sprague River in a lodgepole pine and meadow setting.

At 6,303 feet in elevation, Sandhill Crossing is a popular hunting camp in the
fall. There is no fee to use this campground and amenities include potable
water, one vault toilet, picnic tables and fire rings at all five campsites.

The Corral Creek campground, located at the base of the Gearhart Mountain
Wilderness 45 minutes northeast of Bly, Oregon, offers six campsites in a
rustic lodgepole pine and meadow setting. Each site includes a picnic table,
fire ring, and there is one vault toilet. The creek flows along the edge of
the campground, and is fishable when the water level is sufficient.



This campground is an excellent location for access to the wilderness trail
system, including the trailhead for Lookout Rock and Blue Lake (Trail 100).
The trailhead lies about a half-mile from Corral Creek campground. You can do
an out and back hike or horseback ride to the Palisades, about three miles
round trip. Or, head to Blue Lake for a short backpacking excursion, about 18
miles round trip.



Besides wilderness users, this campground is popular with hunters during
hunting season. June and July are heavy mosquito months so bring bug spray.

Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and there is one vault toilet. The creek flows along the edge of the campground, and is fishable when the water level is sufficient. &nbsp;This campground is an excellent location for access to the wilderness trail system, including the trailhead for <a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/fremont-winema/recarea/?recid=59847">Lookout Rock</a> and Blue Lake (Trail 100). The trailhead lies about a half-mile from Corral Creek campground. You can do an out and back hike or horseback ride to the Palisades, about three miles round trip. Or, head to Blue Lake for a short backpacking excursion, about 18 miles round trip. &nbsp;Besides wilderness users, this campground is popular with hunters during hunting season.&nbsp;June and July are heavy mosquito months so bring bug spray.&nbsp;There no potable water. Visitors need to pack plenty of water.

## Overview

Historic Currier Guard Station is nestled in a scattering of fir, pine and
aspen, providing an ideal setting for guests seeking relaxation and recreation
in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The guard station was named after a
local ranch owner, and was constructed in 1933 as an out station for the
Paisley Ranger District to house forest fire prevention and suppression crews
in the field. Fire crews occupied the station seasonally until the early
1990s. Today, the cabin offers guests a secluded getaway in a landscape
abundant with wildlife and nature. Although the cabin provides some amenities
for those seeking a comfortable lodging experience, guests must bring several
of their own supplies.

## Recreation

Currier Guard Station is a wonderful location for hiking, fishing, horseback
riding and biking in summer and early fall. The cabin is located one mile
north of the Sycan Wild and Scenic River, a scenic spot for fly fishing. The
river corridor winds from a steep canyon to broad meadows, containing a
diversity of landforms, rocks and vegetation. Coniferous forests intermingle
with riparian vegetation, and expanses of sage and bitterbrush grow in the
drier areas. The river supports rainbow, brook, brown and bull trout. Hikers
and equestrians will enjoy numerous trails threading through the forest.

The 450 square-foot cabin has two rooms and can accommodate up to four people.
The combination bedroom/living room is furnished with a set of bunk beds, a
double bed, propane heating stove and a propane fridge. The kitchen is
equipped with a table and chairs and a propane cook stove. A picnic table and
campfire ring are provided for outdoor cooking, dining and campfires. A vault
toilet is located near the cabin. There is no water on site, so guests must
bring sufficient supplies for drinking, cooking and washing. Guests must also
provide their own sleeping bags, sleeping pads, towels, dish soap, matches,
cooking gear, first aid kit, toilet paper and garbage bags. Although propane
lighting is available, guests are advised to bring an additional light source
in case of emergencies. Campers can collect up to half a cord of firewoodfor
use on site without a permit.

landscapes, wide-open sage basins, scenic vistas and wild places where
visitors can still find solitude. Behind the cabin, an expanse of meadow
stretches to meet the forest's edge, providing a perfect habitat for a variety
of wildlife. Red tail hawks perch in treetops looking for field mice.
Meadowlarks, Steller's jays and hummingbirds also frequent the area. Larger
mammals, such as deer and Rocky Mountain elk find homes in the forests. In the
early summer months there are a lot of musqitos, be prepared with bug spray
and nets.
