West Point Campground

Overview

West Point Campground is located on the northwest shore of Union Valley reservoir off of North Union Valley Road. There are 22 sites ranging from sinlge to triple in capacity. There is a boat ramp with access to the reservior.

The campground and boat ramp are at 4,875 feet in elevation.

Charges & Cancellations

Change Fee: A service fee may be charged at the time a modification is made depending on the changes.
Cancellation Fee: A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refunds for a cancelled reservation.
Cut-Off Window: The latest date and/or time that you can make an advanced reservation or a change to an existing reservation. Cut-off windows can vary by location, but are typically 4 days before your arrival date. A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (see Late Cancellation below).
Late Cancellation: If you cancel your reservation too close to the start date, additional service fees may be withheld.
Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).

Recreation fees vary by location and/or activity. * Reservation Fee: A fee may be charged at the time a reservation is made to cover the cost of reservation services. This fee is in addition to the Recreation Fee and is non-refundable. Fees for camping, day use, group sites, cabins and lookouts: $8 if made on-line; $9 if made through the call center; $3 if made in-person.

* Access is via Highway 50, 23 miles east of Placerville, California, then * 7 miles north on Ice House Road, * turn left onto Peavine Ridge Road for 3 miles, * make a right turn on Bryant Springs Road, go 5 miles north across the dam and just past the boat ramp to the right

Bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve ever seen! Mosquitos weren’t great but if you keep your fire going, the smoke seems to get rid of them. I like how spacious the sites were, much bigger and farther from people than Collins, Rollins, Scott’s Flat, etc. However I wish the sites were closer to water. The site we stayed at was closest to the boat launch, not great for swimming but we didn’t mind much. Overall a good stay!

Terrible experience. The camp host was yelling at people at 12am. Which would have been fine if she did that and was done. But she proceeded to do that and then continue to yell at the for another 45 mins. Then she went to other camps to talk loudly about what just happened. Also other camps were super obnoxious with music until super late. The campground was fine overall. Number 9 is not great. Not much shade most of the day.

To be honest we were worried going into this camping trip that this campground was going to be noisy because of thw amount of double sites. We were very pleasantly surprised. The camp host was constantly driving around which I think made a big difference. The bathrooms were incredibly clean and our campsite (#15) had some nice tent spots and a good amount of afternoon shade. Our only complaint would be there wasn’t really good water access. The “boat ramp” needed to be cleared and with the lake level so high there wasn’t much beach available. Otherwise, we had a great trip and would definitely be back.

I wish I listened to Cory in the comments- "We took our baby on his first camping trip here and it was great! The camp host was so nice and helpful and the location was beautiful! Just don’t follow google maps directions to get here, it will have you going on crazy dirt roads blocked by gates." This was exactly what happened to us. To be clear go in from the Highway 50 side not the Highway 80 side. There is great reception near your camp spot but none where the blocked gates are. Apple maps didn't work at all but google maps would go in and out on my verizon plan Iphone 13. Just make sure you know which way Icehouse road is. There was plenty to keep my 4 and 6 year olds busy. The camphost was friendly and knowledgable and was great with the kids. There were some good falls i short drive away.

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend, and it was our second visit. Overall, we had a great experience. The campsites are quite spacious, though some offer significantly more shade than others.

Campground has been relatively recently renovated. The bear boxes, bathrooms, etc are new and quite nice. Bathrooms and dumpsters stayed clean while we were there over a holiday weekend. Camp host was around all the time but did not really enforce food regulations - I saw many people leave trash bags out in the open while away from their campsites. If you want privacy get a spot on the outside of the loop, a lot of the inner spots are right next to eachother. Also, a lot of the sites are insanely dusty because it's newer and plant roots haven't locked down the loose dirt yet. Some sites lacking in shade as well. From the main loop there is a nice trail down to the boat ramp, it's less than a quarter mile. The walk-in sites are much closer to the lake. Not much of a "beach" besides the boat ramp, just steep rocky shoreline but it's still a quite nice place to hang out.

The smell of the pit toilets was everywhere. The whole area around the fire pit and the table was nothing but dust. I can't imagine what a mire it must become when it rains.

My campsite needs a new wood chip layer all over the site. It was extremely dusty. Unless you have a boat, the access isn’t suitable for water activities since there wasn’t a sandy beach. The bathrooms should have signage to keep the toilet seats down after use. This is a no-brainer in my mind, but needs to be said. It stunk so bad and several flies in the bathroom because other campers were not very considerate in this area. The camp host was kind and diligent in checking paid fees by newly arriving campers, which is good in order to keep the riff raff out. We don’t intend to come back to this campground just because our family is looking for walkable beach.

This campground is great. Our site was conveniently by the restroom and the water spout but not too close. There was a lot of mosquitos and quite a bit of people staying at this campground which I wasn’t expecting. There is a trail that goes for miles, has great views, and convenient stops along the way for swimming, highly recommend

Site #22 had easy access to the lake. Would of been nice to have a closer water spigot and restroom to the site. No shade and dusty in the camp site.

had a great time, clean and quiet. our campsite was a walk-in; meaning you park your car in the lot and carry your gear to your site. i recommend bringing a wagon. overall, 5 out of 5!

Great location next to a beautiful lake. It says only two cars max online, but location says for cars max if you have a larger group. There’s also an overflow parking lot plenty of shade in the trees, however suggest bringing a shade for the picnic table.

Awesome campground. Do not trust Google maps to get there. A lot of sites don’t have a lot of shade so watch out.

Great spot that can fit a lot of tents. We had a 14 person tent, 10 person and a 6 person all up and still had tons of space for games and hang out general areas. Camp host was great and bathrooms were always stocked and clean.

Has lots of great restrooms, potable water, bear closets and dumpsters. The lake is great and the boat launch is super easy going. I highly recommend trying this place.
