The Mitt Moody sites range from being tucked away in the hillside to one that

Pine Valley Recreation Area is situated in a beautiful valley surrounded by
the Pine Valley Mountains. There are several campgrounds with sites for single
families, large groups, motor-homes, and horses. At an elevation of 6,900 feet
the valley offers a great escape from the heat of the Southern Utah desert.
Visitors enjoy fishing at nearby Pine Valley Reservoir and exploring local
trails.

## Recreation

Hiking and horse trails are abundant in Pine Valley. Trails vary in length
from 2 to 35 miles. Some trails allow mountain biking. Shoreline fishing for
rainbow trout is a popular activity on the lake. Flotation devices - canoes,
paddle boards, inner tubes, etc. -are not allowed on the lake. Pine Valley
Mountain Wilderness is adjacent to the recreation area. Trails in the area
include:

  * Brown's Point Trail

  * Equestrian Trail

  * Whipple Trail

  * Pine Valley Canal Trail

  * Gardner Peak Trail

## Facilities

Located within the Pine Valley Recreation Area are six overnight family
campgrounds, two overnight group areas, four day-use group sites and an
amphitheater. Dean Gardner, Equestrian, and Yellow Pine family campgrounds are
available for reservations. Mitt Moody, Crackfoot and Ebenezer Bryce
Campgrounds are available on a first-come basis. The family campgrounds offer
several single and double-family sites, all of which contain picnic tables,
fire rings with grills, utility tables, tent pads and concrete site pads. All
group sites, both overnight and day-use are available for reservations. The
Effie Beckstrom area offers two overnight sites, accommodating 80 people each.
Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Thomas Forsyth day-use area
offers four picnic areas for groups ranging in size from 35-150 people. This
beautiful facility contains large picnic tables, grills and campfire circles.
Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Volleyball courts and horseshoe
pits are on-site. Large parking areas are paved.

**The Pine Valley Equestrian Campground is designed to support campers
traveling with horses. Each reservable site is equipped with corrals to
accommodate equestrian needs, offering a safe and functional space for both
riders and their animals.**

**To preserve this purpose, campsites in the Equestrian Campground are
reserved exclusively for campers with horses until 6:00 PM daily. We kindly
ask that non-equestrian visitors respect this window, allowing equestrian
users priority access to these specialized facilities. After 6:00 PM, any
remaining sites may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.**

OHV/ATV's including street legal are not allowed within the Pine Valley
Recreation Area (they must be trailered at all times).

## Natural Features

A beautiful forest of ponderosa pine and oak covers the area, offering partial
shade. Mountain mahogany, juniper and sagebrush dot the landscape.

Zions National Park, one of Utah's most famous national parks, featuring
dramatic red cliffs, canyon hikes and scenic drives through high desert and
river valley.

Other nearby attractions include Sand Hallow State Park, St. George Dinosaur

Pine Valley Guard Station is located in scenic Pine Valley Recreation Area,
about 45 minutes from St. George, Utah. Built in 1935 by the Civilian
Conservation Corps, the station was used to house a recreation guard during
the summer months to assist the visiting public.  
  
The cabin is open year-round and is accessible by vehicle during good road
conditions. Winter use of the cabin may require snowshoeing, hiking or cross-
country skiing about 1.5 miles from the trailhead at the entrance to the Pine
Valley Recreation Area.  
  
Many modern amenities are offered, including electricity. Guests only need to
bring a few of their own supplies to have a truly comfortable stay in this
charming retreat within the Dixie National Forest.

## Recreation

The cabin is centrally located within the Pine Valley Recreation Area, in
close proximity to fishing at Pine Valley Reservoir. This small, quiet
reservoir  
offers a scenic location to fish for rainbow trout.  
  
  
  
Numerous non-motorized trails provide access into the Pine Valley Mountain
Wilderness.  
  
  
  
The winter landscape provides opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country
skiing.

## Facilities

The cabin retains historic qualities of the original building, with the added
feature of electricity. Six people can sleep comfortably on one futon and one
set of double/twin bunk beds with mattresses. An electric fireplace heater is
available in place of the old wood burning stove. The kitchen is equipped with
an electric range, refrigerator, lights, cookware, dishes and utensils. Indoor
plumbing is available in the summer months, offering guests access to a shower
and flush toilet. During winter months (Nov-Apr) guests should be prepared to
hike, snowshoe, or cross country ski into the cabin roughly 1.5 miles with all
of their items due to seasonal gate closures.  
  
  
Guests can enjoy outdoor cooking on the campfire ring with grill. An outhouse
is provided for year-round use. Water is only available during the summer
months. Guests will need to bring their own supply of water for drinking,
cooking and washing during the winter.  
  
  
Guests should pack sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, flashlights, matches,
toilet paper, a first aid kit and garbage bags. All food and trash must be
packed out, and guests are expected to use the provided cleaning supplies to
clean the cabin before leaving.

The cabin is surrounded by ponderosa pine trees and offers scenic views of the
Pine Valley Mountains. At an elevation of 6,800 feet, summer days are warm and
nights are cool.  
  
The nearby Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness, described as a mountain island
surrounded by desert, preserves numerous lush meadows and a beautiful forest
of Engelmann spruce in the south, and spruce mixed with fir, pine and large
stands of aspen in the north.  
  
The Pine Valley Mountains rise through the entire center of the Pine Valley
Wilderness, providing habitat for chipmunks, marmots, red squirrels, blue
grouse and a large herd of deer in summer. Elevations rise to a high point at
10,365 feet on Signal Peak in the southern portion.

OHV access in campgrounds which have legal access to riding opportunities
while also providing a quiet recreation experience at some locations.

**Off Highway Vehicle Road Restrictions Within Developed Campgrounds**

### PROHIBITIONS:

Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(a) and 261.50(b), the following act is
prohibited on the roads and areas described in this order, on the Cedar City
and Pine Valley Ranger Districts, Dixie National Forest until further notice:

  1. Using any off-highway vehicle, as defined by Utah law in Utah Code Annotated Section 41-22-2, on a road or portion thereof that is posted as closed to off highway vehicles, to include all “All-Terrain Type I” and “All-Terrain Type II” vehicles, unless they have been modified to meet “street legal” requirements. Title 36 CFR 261.54(a) 

### DEFINITIONS:

  1. "Off-highway vehicle (OHV)" means any snowmobile, all-terrain type I vehicle, all-terrain type II vehicle, all-terrain type III vehicle, or motorcycle. 
  2. "All-terrain type I vehicle" means any motor vehicle 52 inches or less in width, having an unladen dry weight of 1,500 pounds or less, traveling on three or more low pressure tires, having a seat designed to be straddled by the operator, and designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain. 
  3. "All-terrain type II vehicle" means any motor vehicle 80 inches or less in width, traveling on four or more low pressure tires, having a steering wheel, non-straddle seating, a rollover protection system, and designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain, and is: 
    1. an electric-powered vehicle; or 
    2. a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine and has an unladen dry weight of 2,500 pounds or less.
  4. "All-terrain type III vehicle" means any other motor vehicle, not defined in Subsection (2), (3), (12), or (22), designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain. 
  5. "All-terrain type III vehicle" does not include golf carts, any vehicle designed to carry a person with a disability, any vehicle not specifically designed for recreational use, or farm tractors as defined under Utah law in Utah Code Annotated Section 41-1a-102 
  6. “Street legal Motorcycle” means every motor vehicle having a saddle for the use of the operator and designed to travel on not more than two tires and compiles with: 
     * (i) traffic rules under Title 41, Chapter 6a, traffic Code; 
     * (ii) titling, odometer statement, vehicle identification, license plates, and registration, excluding registration fees, under Title 41, Chapter 1a, Motor Vehicle Act; and 
     * (iii) the county motor vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance programs under Section 41-6a-1642; (b) a motor vehicle for: 
       * (i) driver licensing under Title 53, Chapter 3, Uniform Driver License Act; and
       * (ii) motor vehicle insurance under Title 41, Chapter 12a, Financial Responsibility of Motor Vehicle Owners and Operators Act; 

### EXEMPTIONS:

Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempted from
the prohibition contained in this Order:

  1. Persons with a Forest Service permit specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order. [Title 36 CFR 261.50(d)(1)] 
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer; or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty. [Title 36 CFR 261.50(e)(4)] 
  3. Federal or State administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty. 
  4. Snowmobiles (Over-Snow Vehicles) An over-snow vehicle is defined as “a motor vehicle that is designed for use over snow and that runs on tracks and/or a ski or skis, while in use over snow” from Dec 15th through April 15th 
  5. When there is at least six-inches or more of snow. 
  6. Street legal motorcycles. 

### ROAD AND AREA DESCRIPTION:

Developed campground roads or portions thereof on the Cedar City and Pine
Valley Ranger Districts, Dixie National Forest that are listed and described
in Attachment 1.

### PURPOSE:

This order is intended to provide OHV access in campgrounds which have legal
access to riding opportunities while also providing a quiet recreation
experience at some locations.

### IMPLEMENTATION:

  1. This order will be in effect when signed and shall remain in effect until 02/13/2028 or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. Order Number: 0407-23-01 
  2. The prohibitions in this order apply to roads or portions thereof that are posted with a standing post with a “Closed to OHVs” or “OHV ingress/egress only”. 
  3. The prohibitions in this order will be made part of the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). 
  4. A campground list and roads identifying the restrictions is attached and is made part of this order. 
  5. Violation of the above prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual, or $10,000.00 for an organization, and/or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months. [Title 16 USC 551, Title 18 USC 3571(b)(6), Title 18 USC 3581(b)(7)}.

<p>Pine Valley and Cedar City Ranger Districts Off Highway Vehicle Road Restrictions Within Developed Campgrounds - This order is intended to provide OHV access in campgrounds which have legal access to riding opportunities while also providing a quiet recreation experience at some locations.</p>
<h2 class="text-align-center">United States Department of Agriculture<br/>U.S. Forest Service<br/>Dixie National Forest<br/>Cedar City and Pine Valley Ranger Districts</h2><p class="text-align-center"><strong>Off Highway Vehicle Road Restrictions Within Developed Campgrounds</strong></p><h3>PROHIBITIONS: </h3><p>Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(a) and 261.50(b), the following act is prohibited on the roads and areas described in this order, on the Cedar City and Pine Valley Ranger Districts, Dixie National Forest until further notice: </p><ol><li>Using any off-highway vehicle, as defined by Utah law in Utah Code Annotated Section 41-22-2, on a road or portion thereof that is posted as closed to off highway vehicles, to include all “All-Terrain Type I” and “All-Terrain Type II” vehicles, unless they have been modified to meet “street legal” requirements. Title 36 CFR 261.54(a) </li></ol><h3>DEFINITIONS: </h3><ol><li>"Off-highway vehicle (OHV)" means any snowmobile, all-terrain type I vehicle, all-terrain type II vehicle, all-terrain type III vehicle, or motorcycle. </li><li>"All-terrain type I vehicle" means any motor vehicle 52 inches or less in width, having an unladen dry weight of 1,500 pounds or less, traveling on three or more low pressure tires, having a seat designed to be straddled by the operator, and designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain. </li><li>"All-terrain type II vehicle" means any motor vehicle 80 inches or less in width, traveling on four or more low pressure tires, having a steering wheel, non-straddle seating, a rollover protection system, and designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain, and is: <ol><li>an electric-powered vehicle; or </li><li>a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine and has an unladen dry weight of 2,500 pounds or less.</li></ol></li><li>"All-terrain type III vehicle" means any other motor vehicle, not defined in Subsection (2), (3), (12), or (22), designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain. </li><li>"All-terrain type III vehicle" does not include golf carts, any vehicle designed to carry a person with a disability, any vehicle not specifically designed for recreational use, or farm tractors as defined under Utah law in Utah Code Annotated Section 41-1a-102 </li><li>“Street legal Motorcycle” means every motor vehicle having a saddle for the use of the operator and designed to travel on not more than two tires and compiles with: <ul><li>(i) traffic rules under Title 41, Chapter 6a, traffic Code; </li><li>(ii) titling, odometer statement, vehicle identification, license plates, and registration, excluding registration fees, under Title 41, Chapter 1a, Motor Vehicle Act; and </li><li>(iii) the county motor vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance programs under Section 41-6a-1642; (b)    a motor vehicle for: <ul><li>(i) driver licensing under Title 53, Chapter 3, Uniform Driver License Act; and</li><li>(ii) motor vehicle insurance under Title 41, Chapter 12a, Financial Responsibility of Motor Vehicle Owners and Operators Act; </li></ul></li></ul></li></ol><h3>EXEMPTIONS: </h3><p>Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempted from the prohibition contained in this Order: </p><ol><li>Persons with a Forest Service permit specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order. [Title 36 CFR 261.50(d)(1)] </li><li>Any Federal, State, or local officer; or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty. [Title 36 CFR 261.50(e)(4)] </li><li>Federal or State administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty. </li><li>Snowmobiles (Over-Snow Vehicles) An over-snow vehicle is defined as “a motor vehicle that is designed for use over snow and that runs on tracks and/or a ski or skis, while in use over snow” from Dec 15th through April 15th </li><li>When there is at least six-inches or more of snow. </li><li>Street legal motorcycles. </li></ol><h3>ROAD AND AREA DESCRIPTION: </h3><p>Developed campground roads or portions thereof on the Cedar City and Pine Valley Ranger Districts, Dixie National Forest that are listed and described in Attachment 1. </p><h3>PURPOSE: </h3><p>This order is intended to provide OHV access in campgrounds which have legal access to riding opportunities while also providing a quiet recreation experience at some locations. </p><h3>IMPLEMENTATION: </h3><ol><li>This order will be in effect when signed and shall remain in effect until 02/13/2028 or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. Order Number: 0407-23-01 </li><li>The prohibitions in this order apply to roads or portions thereof that are posted with a standing post with a “Closed to OHVs” or “OHV ingress/egress only”. </li><li>The prohibitions in this order will be made part of the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). </li><li>A campground list and roads identifying the restrictions is attached and is made part of this order. </li><li>Violation of the above prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual, or $10,000.00 for an organization, and/or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months. Located near Pine Valley Wilderness and adjacent to Pine Valley Reservoir,
this new campground offers campsites that are shaded by large Ponderosa pine
trees. Horse riding, fishing, and hiking are popular in this area. Bike riding
opportunities and horse trails are nearby. Several trails including the
Whipple, Brown's Point, and Gardner Peak lead into the Pine Valley Wilderness
area.

ponderosa pine, pinyon pine and juniper setting. It offers great views of the
Pine Valley Mountains. Recreation opportunities include: horseback riding,
hiking, fishing, sight-seeing, and wildlife viewing.  Nearby trails include:
Equestrian Trail, Forsyth Canyon Trail, Browns Trail, Whipple Trail, Pine
Valley Canal Trail, and the Santa Clara River Trail.  Santa Clara River and
the Pine Valley Reservoir are popular fishing spots in the Pine Valley
Recreation area. There are showers and cafes in the town of Pine Valley.

horses. It is located about 3/4 mile from Pine Valley Reservoir, in a
ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper setting north of the Pine Valley Mountain
Wilderness. It offers great views of the Pine Valley Mountains. There are near
by trails in the  Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness including: Equestrian Trail,
Forsyth Canyon Trail, Browns Trail, Whipple, Pine Valley Cannal Trail, and the
Santa Clara River Trail. Fishing in the Santa Clara River and in nearby Pine
Valley Reservoir. Activities include horse riding, hiking, fishing, and at the
reservoir.
