Site 8 was well kept, quiet and the host was very attentive and helpful. Bathroom was clean. Sadly, the lakes are drained and the walking path around them has been washed out and not repaired.

Fawn Lakes is a beautiful campground with proximity to Red River. Our campsite was spacious (plenty of room for our 12-person tent) and shaded, and we appreciated the clean bathrooms and water pump access. Our camp host was also friendly and communicated well about fire restrictions and bear safety. I'm not sure what happened to the lakes or why they were drained, but I hope the NFS is able to see the beauty and value they would bring to the campsite and seek to restore them. I will agree with other reviewers that the road noise is ridiculous. Before the trip, I read the most recent reviews with a grain of salt and thought the complaints about noise were a little exaggerated, but come to find out that they were right on point! Fawn Lakes is right up against the main highway that connects Questa and Red River, which creates constant car noise all day and for most of the night. This was the only drawback. Beautiful site otherwise!

We stayed here back in June and had such a great time, we came back in July! Paul is hands-down, the best host ever! Our kids actually unplugged, despite having service. Imagine that! They met a bunch of other kids in the campground, played in the little creek, and sat around the campfire together telling ghost stories. The stuff memories are made of! Can't wait to get back up there :) Thanks Paul!

Fawn Lakes campground is well maintained with very clean vault toilets. Campground host Paul, is exceptional. Concessionaire does not allow hose connections to fill fresh water for those of us that can only fill our fresh water tank through a hose connection only.
