McCain Guard Station is a rustic cabin that is popular year-round. In summer,
hikers and horseback riders frequent the cabin, and snowmobile enthusiasts

The Sherman Guard Station is located up the Horse Creek drainage just west of
Daniel, Wyoming. The guard station is located 28 miles from Pinedale, Wyoming
and 43 miles from Big Piney, Wyoming. The Sherman Guard Station has two
buildings, the guard station and the bunkhouse. Both buildings have potable
water, toilets, and showers in the summer months, and a newly installed vault
toilet for use in the winter months. Each unit also has a full kitchen with a
gas stove, gas refrigerator, and a variety of pots, pans, dishes and cutlery.
The Sherman Guard Station provides access to wonderful fishing, hiking and
horseback opportunities in the summer, and is located just west of the Horse
Creek Winter Trailhead, which provides premiere on trail and off trail
snowmobiling in the winter.

<p>The Sherman Guard Station is located up the Horse Creek drainage just west of Daniel, Wyoming. The guard station is located 28 miles from Pinedale, Wyoming and 43 miles from Big Piney, Wyoming. The Sherman Guard Station has two buildings, the guard station and the bunkhouse. Both buildings have potable water, toilets, and showers in the summer months, and a newly installed vault toilet for use in the winter months. Each unit also has a full kitchen with a gas stove, gas refrigerator, and a variety of pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. ## Overview

As the original Sherman Ranger Station built around 1929, this bunkhouse was
used as a seasonal/ summer headquarters for early Forest Service management of
timber and rangelands. The Sherman Guard Station and Bunkhouse is nestled in
the Horse Creek drainage in a beautiful mountain setting with lots of hiking,
bird watching, many verities of wild life, flowers and so much more. In the
winter, Horse Creek is a saught out destination for snow machining.

## Recreation

Hunting, hiking, horse back riding, snow machining, bird watching, picnicking,
sight seeing, and Fishing. Jackson Hole is less then 70 miles North, Granite
Hot Sprins is about 50 miles North and East, Pinedale is less then 30 miles
East.

## Facilities

**There is NO GUARANTEE of Water, Wood or Cookware.**

**Access to the cabins during the winter is over the snow. Snowmobile, ski in,
or walk in from the Horse Creek Parking lot. (~1/4 mile).**

Critters of all sizes inhabbit the area and are known to enter the cabins,
this would include mice, bats, spiders and other small rodants or insects. Be
prepared to have them in and around the cabin.

## Natural Features

Willows and Pines provide sparse Shade. Grasses and summer wildflowers are
abundant. Horse Creek runs not far from the guard stations. Pleanty of
wildlife to see amongst the beautiful view.

Sherman Guard Station has 2 seperate cabins. During summer months June1-Oct
31, both cabins rent together under the Sherman Compound. Winter months Nov
1-May 31 cabins are rented seperatly, if you want both you will need to rent
them both. During the winter months, cabin is only accesible by snowmachine,
skis, or walk in.
