Linville Falls Campground
Overview
Located in a dense pine canopy, within hiking distance of Linville Gorge, and along the famous Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville Falls Campground is an ideal location for your next family camping excursion. Linville River, which winds beside the campground, is stocked for fishing, and the location is central to many area attractions including the Linville Falls waterfall, which has three waterfall overlooks in a one-mile hike.
Recreation
The Linville Falls area is a hiker's paradise, and the campground provides easy access to several trails that allow visitors to experience the stunning scenery and abundant wildlife.
Once at the Linville Gorge, visitors can hike more challenging trails down to the river, where fishing for trout is a popular pastime.
Linville Falls is another must-see, carrying water from the river over several layers of falls, ending in a spectacular 45-foot waterfall pouring into the sparkling riverbed below.
Duggers Creek Falls: accessible from the Linville Falls Visitor Center on a small loop trail. See views of the falls from the foot bridge. These are native brook trout waters (fishing regulations apply).
Lost Cove Cliff Overlook: view Brown Mountain and see the Brown Mountain Lights--a natural occurrence which is believed to be caused by natural gases. A good spot to view hawks and peregrine falcons in the spring and fall.
Facilities
The campground offers comfortable tent or RV camping, with the convenience of flush toilets, dump station, and drinking water. Grills/fire rings and picnic tables at each site create a perfect environment for family barbecues or late-night marshmallow roasting.
In addition to the 39 sites available for advance reservation, 25 campsites are available on a first come, first-served basis. The availability of first come, first served sites cannot be tracked through Recreation.gov. The sites must be booked in person at the campground kiosk.
Natural Features
Linville Gorge is a vast designated Wilderness area that sits on 11,786 acres of rolling hills and thick forest. The gorge surrounds the Linville River, which is located some 1,400 feet below the ridge, creating a stunning canyon that has earned the nickname "The Grand Canyon of North Carolina."
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic byway with plenty of natural attractions and recreational opportunities for visitors. Aside from natural features, the parkway is also a cross-section of Appalachian mountain history. Stretching almost 500 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia, it encompasses some of the oldest historical sites of both pre-historic and early European settlements.
The surrounding forest offers hemlock, white pine, oaks, hickory and birch trees, along with a colorful assortment of wildflowers in the spring and an epic array of orange and red shades of leaves in the autumn.

Linville Caverns, a privately maintained cave just south of Linville Falls, offers guided tours year-round.

Directions
From I-40 East, take Highway 221 north to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Linville
Falls. Go north for one mile to Linville Falls Spur Road, located at Milepost
317, and continue a half mile to the campground.

Great facility as long as you are ready for no hookups. We had a great week with daytime temp 70 night 50. Just perfect. Clean and well kept. NPS personnel and volunteers very helpful.

The campground was in a good location near the Linville Falls visitor center with lots of hikes. Note that there are no showers, only restrooms, and the needed some care and maintenance.

Quiet. Campground only about half full. There are two bathrooms. One is ok (could be cleaner) but the “handicap” one is dark gloomy and frankly should not be considered accessible due to the door as well as the parking and sidewalk. I would not want to use.

This is a beautiful campground with alot of open space by river. Have been trying to get a site here for years. Our site was tight for our 23' camper and Traverse SUV. But we made it work. Had family join us on Sunday and the Host and Ranger were very accommodating to allow them to park in an empty space nearby. It would be nice to have more sites open for online reservations. Impressed by the way a family that found themselves in an emergency situation were treated by campground staff. They were compassionate, understanding, and respectful.

Great experience. Staff was friendly and very helpful. We were in spot A02 and it was great. Bathroom was neat and working. Great hikes nearby and access to many great towns and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Camp hosts were very cordial and seen making rounds through the campground often. The young ranger that did the educational talk at the amphitheater was great. Cleaning staff was respectful and did an excellent job.

Sites are small. Parking at the tent sites is very limited. If you have anything bigger than a compact car you won’t be able to fit 2 vehicles in the driveway. We had to park our cars at an angle to fit them in

Every time we visit the mountains, we always take at least one night to visit Linville. Not only is this one of our favorite campgrounds, but the area is just beautiful! Of course, you have to explore the grounds, the field near most of the tent sites is our favorite to run through and play in (with littles and dogs) while we walk to explore the river. We always do a few hikes at Linville Falls, and went through the caverns once (highly recommend if it fits in your trip)!

This was our overnight spot for a motorcycle trip. Very family friendly, loved seeing all the kiddos trying to catch fireflies in the meadow! Peaceful river by the community campfire area. Roofing on the toilet area was a little outdated but overall in working condition. Tent site was decently flat for setting up on. Plenty of water spigot sources within walking distance and bear boxes for your food.

Apparently you can’t swim in the river, but if you have a fishing license and a pole, you can wade out and cool off. Great place to camp and dry RV for general quiet. Bugs are minimal in June. Kids loved chasing fire flys!

Camp ground is well maintained, rangers are friendly and helpful. Super close (walking distance) to Linville Falls and the river is right next to the campground for fishing and wading.

Our overall experience with this campground was ok. Our tent pad was 50% overgrown and the bathrooms were relatively gross. The water from the outside pump came out brown every time. The campground needs a little more maintenance and updates. We would stay here again if needed but would not recommend if there is other options.

We pulled in late and left out early in the morning so we didn’t spend too much time here, to our disappointment. The only thing we had a problem with was the back in. The road was narrow and there was a car parked directly across from our site, which made it a little difficult to back in. The pad was surrounded by curbing which added a further complication, but we got in and enjoyed a late dinner by the fire. Quiet night and we slept great! Nice walk around the campground with our coffee in the morning before we left. We’ll definitely keep this campground on the list for future visits to this area!

Great little campgroud! Older but clean flush toilets. well maintained campsites. one tip is depending on your set up, pay attention to the site details. some sites are wider rather than longer so you may end up parking adjacent to your trailer. great place to camp under the stars! easy access to the linville gorge area.

Our family fell in love with this campground the moment we stepped out of the car. You can hear the river from almost anywhere on site! It is calm and gorgeous, and the campsites aren't packed on top of one another. We saw some people with water inner tubes, and one day they told us how to enter the river from a trail near the entrance and ride it down to the end of the campground. We weren't prepared for that adventure, but we'll investigate it next time. Also, firewood is conveniently stocked at the entrance so you just have to pay cash and grab the wood. This came in handy one morning when I felt that a fire would be useful in drawing the family out of the tent to begin the day. Also, this campground is so convenient to Linville Falls and the related trails. I have already recommended this campground to a few people, and we will definitely be back.

Stay away. Like many campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway, this one is old and run-down. The water from the spigots came out brown, which may just be rust, here's hoping. But the worst part was the staff. All bathrooms in the campground were closed for repair one morning. So, like other poeple we drove a mile to the nearby visitor center, where the bathrooms were open with no sign indicating otherwise. A maintenance man burst in on my wife, while she was in the restroom stall, demanding she leave immediately so he could clean. He then proceeded to shout at her when she said he was being inappropriate. When I later strongly complained to the host, he took the maintenance man's side. Then he said my wife deserved this because of how much work they all have to do. The host refused to provide me with contact info for an NPS supervisor to make a complaint, and then he went and hid inside the entrance station. I have yet to receive a response from NPS about this incredibly inappropriate conduct, which borders on criminal behavior. If the park unit wants to do the right thing, they need to fire the maintenance man and let the volunteer host go. Regardless, do yourself a favor and stay away from this campground.

The rangers and camp hosts are really wonderful. The sites are not that private (mostly) and not many FF sites with shade in July/August but it's a great place to stay and get into the river or go see the falls and cavern. Wonderful for families with big open places for them to play. I can't give it 5 stars without a shower, though. 😄 A shower building is needed! Some cell coverage (T-Mobile), but only spotty.

This is a lovely place to camp. Wish there were showers though. We spent a week and the weather was great and we hiked to the Falls and my husband enjoyed fishing. We'll definitely come back again.

Campground is big..but the toilets are few and not well managed..overall they need to improve this ..if you are allowing that many people to camp you should also maintain the toilets .

Once again, my Linville experience was awesome. Left temperatures in the mid 90s here in Raleigh and upon arriving at the campground the temperature had dropped to the low 70s. Very nice! Nighttime temps in the low 60s and even upper 50s made for really nice sleeping with the murmur of the Linville River in the background. My grandsons. daughter, and son in law were able to come and fun was had by all, especially my 2 grandsons. I hope they develop a love for the area just like I did many years ago and return with their children.

Beautiful campground. Easy to get to yet tucked away from the roads. Clean and quiet. Loved it’s proximity to picnic areas and trails. Good variety in sites. Some sunny and open. Some tucked away in the rhododendron. They have firewood but no ice. Not sure how close a gas station is but there was a small restaurant near by.
