Live Oak Ridge

Overview

Live Oak Ridge campground is located at Belton Lake close by the dam and the city of Belton.
This year-round, family friendly campground accommodates both tents and RVs and has many amenities, such as a playground, water-bourne restrooms with sinks, flush toilets, and showers, and an activity center.

Belton Lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the construction of Belton Dam in 1954. The 12,300-acre lake is located on the Leon River, just upstream of the confluence of the Leon River and the Little River. Belton Lake is a long, narrow and winding lake with many curves and coves, providing some of the best camping, fishing, and boating in Central Texas.

Recreation

With 136 miles of shoreline, Belton Lake offers a wide variety of recreation activities, including camping, water recreation, picnicking, and nature trails. Live Oak Ridge has one multi-lane boat ramp, a playground, and activity center. Hiking trails are conveniently located adjacent to the park at Miller Springs Nature Area.

White-tailed deer, hawks, great blue herons, ducks, geese, many species of songbirds, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, and even an occasional bald eagle visit the lake area, yielding year-round opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts.

Very clean and well maintained park. The park staff was very friendly and helped us with a little issue on our mistake in picking a 30 amp spot and not a 50. Will visit again for sure!

It was nice, but we were in site 25. Desperately need tables and table covers like they are in Site 1 thru 24! 25 thru end need tables & covers like the others! Please, push that thru. I have been camping at Live Oak since I was a little girl! Need nice tables and cover Ike the first 24! Clearing some of the brush would be nice so we could have the view of the lake like they were back in the day!

Everything clean and well maintained, and the bathrooms as well. No problems checking in, but a little shade would’ve been nicer because it was pretty hot.

Unlike some COE parks in this region (like Waco), the park is always clean, well kept and grounds are well manicured. We always enjoy the Belton Lake parks. Obviously well managed. We are probably 6 times a year. The park host that I interacted with on the trip was Steve. He was highly visible, very friendly and communicative. (Like most hosts that we interact with. Again, my compliments to the entire team here. They should be used to train others (like Waco).

Website showed that it wasd completely shaded and had a shelter over table. When we got there, no shade and no shelter. We were on hold for over 30 minutes trying to switch sites. Probably won't go back to this park.

We really like this place and have been several times. The bathrooms are clean and the showers spacious. The only issue we had was we were doing a cookout in the fire ring with the grandkids in the evening and the amount of files attacking the table were way too much to bear. Will not plan to eat outside here in the future.

I am only submitting this review because I could not get a hold of anyone at the campground. Live Oak ridge in Belton spot 11 has an electrical issue. Either it has a reversed ground, or was struck by lightning. My capacitor in my converter box was fried and that issue only results from greater than 200 coming into it. Each leg of the 50 amp service should have no more than 120. A certified electrician told me that is the only way this issue could have resulted. I tried to call the campground several times with no answer. I am just hoping no one else plugs into the service.

Really wish they could clear some brush so we could see the lake from at least some of the sites. I have been camping there since I was a little girl. Back there, there were sites where you could actually see the water! Also, sites 25 til the end need tops on the picnic tables. Nice from 1 to 24 but after that old wood tables and NO covers! Why can’t we make them all the same?
