Deer Run Campground
Overview
Deer Run Campground is located in the beautiful Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area on the Ashley National Forest at an elevation of 6,200 feet. Flaming Gorge Reservoir is less than a mile below the campground. Exciting recreational activities abound, including boating, water skiing and fishing.Recreation
Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is known not only for its beautiful red cliffs, but also for its world-class fishing for lake, brown and rainbow trout. Boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving are popular activities on the reservoir. Cedar Springs Marina is adjacent.Bear Canyon Trail, an easy 3-mile round-trip trail for hiking and mountain biking, begins nearby and leads to views of Red Canyon and Flaming Gorge.
Facilities
This small campground contains family campsites equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Flush toilets, showers and drinking water are provided. A dump station and marina are located in the immediate area at Cedar Springs.For larger groups, the nearby Arch Dam, Greendale, Dripping Springs, Antelope Flat and Dutch John Draw Campgrounds have several group sites available.
Natural Features
Deer Run is situated among juniper, pinyon pine and sagebrush above Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Shade is limited and the reservoir is not visible from the campground. A resident deer herd gives this site its name.Contact Info

Flaming Gorge Dam offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant and the dam, and the adjacent visitor center contains area history exhibits.The Green River below the dam provides spectacular rafting opportunities. Directions
From Vernal, Utah, take U.S. 191 north 42 miles. Turn north onto Forest Road
183 and travel approximately 2 miles to the campground, adjacent to Cedar
Springs Marina.
From Manila, Utah, take Highway 44 for 28 miles. Turn left on U.S. 191 and go
north for about 4 miles. Turn north onto Forest Road 183 and travel
approximately 2 miles to the campground, adjacent to Cedar Springs Marina.
From Rock Springs, Wyoming, take I-80 west toward Green River about 6 miles to
the junction with U.S. 191/Flaming Gorge Road. Take U.S. 191 south for 67
miles, passing through Dutch John. Turn north onto Forest Road 183 and travel
approximately 2 miles to the campground, adjacent to Cedar Springs Marina.

Overall a great camping spot, but this year the toilets and showers didn’t work multiple times. That and it seems that every campground around is told to show up here to shower.
Maybe fix the showers and toilets once in a while.
I will have to look for a new place to stay.
I have been staying at Deer Run for almost a decade. It’s sad to see that the infrastructure is falling apart.

Been staying for a few years in July. Water hydrant by campsite did not work. Got the annual give your money for our towed vehicle ($10) per day. Campground is already expensive was $180 +\- for 4 nights with reservation fee. Most of the showers were out of service due to a group of 4th of July camps that got rowdy and destructive. They then took the rest out of service to do some water leak testing in the middle of our stay. The dump station is by appointment only with the host. Campground is really nice and quiet. A few of the spots are big enough for a large rv. The lake is nice. The host/manager was pleasant was really empty lots of sites reserved but no show.

We have always loved staying at Deer Run every year. This year was not the case. One of the main reasons we like it is the showers. I know that it is beyond their control that this year there was a water issue with broken pipes, but only having two showers open for all the campers staying was impossible given that they were open only certain times.
The campsites have always been cleaned and the tables newly painted… this year tables were broken, splintered and unpainted. There was garbage left we were blamed for.
We generally are a group of at least 20 and reserve at least 3 sites so we are aware of the extra car charge( also stated on the the website) - we hadn’t even gotten settled before the managers were here demanding money - but got defensive when we asked about compensation for the showers and the broken tables.
Deer Run is still a nice campground with all the trees and views- hopefully things get better.
Any compensation would be appreciated.

Although there were water issues and some of the facilities were either not open or open for limited time frames, the camp host, Storm, was stellar and help make our stay comfortable. She's a keeper!

This was my second trip to this campsite. I went last year right around the same time in June. Great campsite and the manager is excellent. The only disappointment this round was that the water was turned off meaning no showers or any water access. We ended up leaving early, heading up to a hotel in Green River Wyoming, and continued our trip. I would definitely visit there again. It’s just unfortunate that the water was turned off for some reason.

Storm, the camp hostess, was honestly 10+. She was cheerful, helpful, thoughtful, and hard working. Having been trailer camping for 30 years, I have to say that she was the best. Deer Run campground is superlative and when you have a hostess like Storm, you just need to scribble a wonderful comment.

Overall the campground and host were great. It is early season so not all water facilities are up and running but that wasn’t a problem for us. The area was clean, quiet, and close to the marina which made it a perfect spot to call home base for our fishing trip.

Site 15. Pretty spot with shade. Area was clean. We had two tents and while there were areas to put them up, there were not raised tent pads and if it rained there would be problems as they were in drainages. We were there for the opening weekend starting May 11th. Definitely no water and no showers and there was still no water when we left on the 15th. Only one of the vault toilets was open, the other locked. The camp host did a good job cleaning them. The Cedar Springs marina didn't have fish cleaning tables open. Boat ramps (Cedar Springs and Antelope Flats) had debris and rocks on them. Boating and fishing was good with spectacular scenery.

We love staying at Deer run. Nice large private camp spots. Close to the marina and other needs. We love the showers in this camp. Just what’s needed after a long day playing on the Gorge. Our camp host this last time was so kind and helpful. They always are but even more so this last time.

Campground was very empty when we were here in Sept/October. Camp host Susie was very friendly and helpful. Sites were very large and the pit toilets were very clean.

Beautiful, smaller campground, marina is just down the road, attentive and helpful host, bathrooms and showers were very clean and well stocked. We went the 3-4th weeks in September and the campground was not crowded at all. First come-first served sites were all open. We had sites 12, 13, and 14. TONS of tent space in site 12. Great spot. Not so much tent space in 13 even though it's advertised as a double site. 13 is only great if you have campers, cars and other trailers as there's only room for 2 tents, and the fire ring is in a bad spot, right on the edge of the cement pad with a hill drop off on one side, so only room for may 4 people to sit around it on one side. Site 14 was ideal with room for double the cars and trailers and good room for tents, and a big circle around the fire ring to hold lots of people.
It was cooler at night this time of year, (we also go in July) but if you are prepared for cooler nights, it's a wonderful time to go to Flaming Gorge. Temperatures were in the 70's during the day. Incredible fall colors, and the water is still bearable. We jet-skied all day and the water was like glass, fishing was good. Caught some beautiful trout. Highly recommend this campground, but if you're looking for a beach location campground, try Mustang Ridge (Sunny Cove). We had to drive to our "beach camp" from our campground but we didn't mind this.

We camped at Deer Run the first year it opened and try to return every year. It is a great spot in the universe. This year we noticed improvements in the shower building. Our campground host, Sue was excellent. She rakes the camp sites and they are pristine. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the local wildlife. We had another great stay. Thanks for keeping this campground memorable.

Showers, clean flush- and pit-toilets. Easy access to the gorge and water access for swimming or boating.
Visitor center for the dam was closed though during reasonable hours.

We had one of our best camping experiences, ever. This place is so well taken care of! When we arrived we were amazed to see our entire campsite cleaned & raked. The asphalt parking pad, wall & the roads & buildings in good repair. The bathrooms and showers were numerous & always clean & in good repair. The trash dumpster was convenient. Sue, the caretaker, always met us with a smile. She was well-informed & helpful. When we lost a hat, she was very personable & concerned. She seemed happy when we found it. Our Consumer Cellular mobile phone service worked with 2-3 bars of service generally.
We will definitely return to this campground!

Perfect location for Marina activities, the Flaming Gorge Dam and highway loop. Awesome hikes nearby - recommend the Canyon Rim hike from the lodge to the visitor center!

The campground is pleasant and quiet. It is somewhat remote from the reservoir itself. The biggest problem is that there was no running water whatsoever at the campground, although it is advertised as having showers and flush toilets. There was no notification of this situation and no reduction in fees. This is false advertising in the extreme. I think recreation.gov facilities can do much better than this!

No water in the campground! Showers and flush toilets out of order. No notice, no apologies and no refund. The poor host was totally out of the loop of communication. This was not a temporary situation… out of service over a week. Flaming Gorge is our favorite place in the world and American Lesuire is destroying it!

We love it here. Unfortunately there was no running water due to a broken pipe up the road during the winter. The closest water was 4miles away. It would have been nice to know that before we went to the campground

The Campground closed unexpectedly before we arrived with a reservation as did the dump station. Not a great situation when you arrive an hour before sunset!

After I received an email, Sat. Sept 30 confirming our one night stay.
We never got to stay at this Deer Run Campground #18. Monday Oct 2nd. The Fed gov did not shut down !
We get to the gate and its locked closed, several paper notes posted closed.
I called recration.gov right away because I had cell signal at bottom of gorge, to ensure I got a refund,,, phone rep said its supposed to be open, not supposed to be closed.
So, We had to drive further south to BLM land and found a camp, No water, no RR, Nothing out there but a lonely bull elk screaming all night. Weirdest thing was, in the middle of nowhere/ wilderness we got super fast 5G signal.

Normally, I would give Deer Run a 5 star review, but we arrived for our reservation only to find the campground closed with not notice or warning. We moved to a different one only to be told that one was closing also and had to tear down camp again, and move. The communication process needs to be fixed.

A very nice campground. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. There was some truck engine brake noise from 191 but wasn't constant or terrible. We would definitely go back!

Camp host not present, apparent medical situation. Bathrooms and showers, were not cleaned and stocked suffieciently. Loud campers after hours, my son went to a camp after midnight to tell them about quiet hours.

Very nice location. Amenities (water, potable water, RV dump , Pit toilets, flush toilets, showers) were all available and kept up. Campground was peaceful and relatively quiet. The campground is right next to the Cedar Springs Marina. Looking forward to going again.

The site was nice and had good separation between campsites. The showers heads were broken in three of the showers that I entered and the floors were very dirty - lots of blowing dust I am guessing. Only spent one night at the location and car camped.

The entire time we were at our campground, there was NO water available to us. No shower, no toilet, no potable water. We were told that the forest service had been working to get water to the area for weeks but there was no success. I think it's bullshit that we weren't made aware of the fact that there was no water at the campground before our arrival. I was camping with my 18 month old baby and had to drive to Mustang Ridge three different times to get water. To say the least, I would've canceled my reservation and moved to a campsite with water had I known what a pain in the ass experience I was about to have.

The camp host was very nice, helpful and understanding.
Back-in spaces that state will fit up to 35' really won't because they are so unlevel that either your front or back tires will be off the ground 6" - 8".
Pretty remote and quiet. Sewer smell coming from all restrooms so the one or two spaces down wind would be terrible.
I'll stay again but will be picky what sites I reserve.

10/5/21 Campground was very clean and my reservation was posted on my campsite when I arrived. Unfortunately, there was no water available. All spigots, showers etc. were shut off or closed for the season.

We had a large, shady, private campsite with a nice area for our tent. The campground was quiet at night. The bathroom and outhouses were clean. There were showers available (free for campers in Deer Run Campground). Location was within five miles of a gas station and grocery store. We would absolutely recommend this campground to others or stay there again.

This has been our go-to campground for over 30 years. We prefer it because we have a large family and enjoy having the flush toilets and bathrooms available.
However, for whatever reason, half of the facility was permanently closed (loss of 3 bathrooms and 2 showers), and the remainder were closed prematurely at 8 PM. This resulted in a line up outside the showers exceeding 30 minutes, and if we got off the lake around sunset, everything would be closed and unavailable.
Also, a fellow camper was running an industrial grade generator that made casual conversation in our own campsite near impossible.
On a good note, the campsites and toilets were clean and tidy.
