approximately 1/4 mile north of the intersection of Dowdy Lake Road and West
County Road 74E/Red Feather Lakes Road. The Red Feather Lakes community,
located about 46 miles northwest of Fort Collins, is known for its
recreational opportunities and remote scenic beauty.

**The Ranger Cabin** is a spacious (1,660 square foot), three-room log cabin,
that can accommodate six to eight people. It has one queen bed and four twin
beds. The fully-equipped kitchen includes two stoves, two refrigerators,
microwave, toaster, coffee pot, pots, pans, dishes and utensils. It was built
by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 from adapted architectural plans
from the Sunlight Ranger Cabin near Cody, Wyoming.

**The Assistant Ranger Cabin** is a two-bedroom log cabin that can accommodate
four to six people. There is a small fully-equipped kitchen with a small
table. There is a log bed frame with a queen size bed in one bedroom and two
twin beds in the second bedroom.

## Recreation

Canoeing, paddle boarding and fishing are popular activities on the 115-acre,
Dowdy Lake nearby and 25-acre, West Lake. Motorized boats are allowed on the
lakes, but a 10 mph speed limit is enforced with no wake. Anglers cast for

DOWDY LAKE

Dowdy Lake

This campground is located adjacent to Highway 14 in an open ponderosa pine
setting near its namesake, Sleeping Elephant Mountain. The mountain and the
inherent sleeping elephant is visible from the campground. The Cache la Poudre
River is nearby but it is mostly on private land within the immediate
vicinity. There are 15 sites each with a picnic table and fire pit. This is an
older facility and will not accommodate larger RVs. Popular activities in the
area include fishing, hiking and scenic driving.

## Overview

Stub Creek Cabin is located on the north end of the Laramie River Valley in
north-central Colorado. It is a well-equipped cabin that provides guests with
a comfortable stay and many modern amenities, as well as access to a variety
of recreational opportunities. Visitors to the area enjoy hiking and horseback
riding, as well as hunting and viewing wildlife. The cabin was built by the
Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936 and was originally used as lodging for the
district ranger's family and Forest Service employees. It can be accessed by
vehicle. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety,
and must bring several of their own amenities.

_Stub Creek Cabin is opening later this season due to historical and
maintenance improvements. Please see the Buckhorn Ranger Station and the
Redfeather Ranger Station cabins for more cabin rental options on the Canyon
Lakes Ranger District._

Collins, Colo., on beautiful Chambers Lake. Visitors enjoy the area for its
great fishing and canoeing, as well as abundant trail opportunities and
wilderness access.

Popular activities included fishing, canoeing and boating on Chambers Lake,
which is a no-wake lake. Anglers cast for rainbow, cutthroat and lake trout. A
boat ramp is located within the campground. Please note the boat ramp may be
unusable in late summer due to low water levels. The lake is a storage
reservoir for irrigation water and is drawn down over the course of the
summer.  
  
  
  
The Blue Lake Trail No. 959 begins nearby. The 7.2-mile trail provides access
to the Rawah Wilderness. Several additional hiking and biking trails can be
found in the surrounding area.
