Overview

Tracy Ridge Campground is located within the Allegheny National Recreation Area, approximately 15 miles from Bradford, Pennsylvania. Allegheny Reservoir is just minutes away. Hikers enjoy exploring the 33-mile Tracy Ridge Trail System, which inclused 10 miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail. Tracy Ridge campground is operated by Allegheny Site Management under a concession permit.

Hand-pumped water is only available in Loop E.

Recreation

Hiking and backpacking possibilities abound in the Tracy Ridge Recreation Area. The trail system of interconnecting loops begins at the campground, and offers offers excellent day hikes. The main trail in the system is the Tracy Ridge trail, which circles the campground and drops down to the North Country National Scenic trail before climbing up the ridge back to the campground, making an approximate 16-mile loop. On the ridge above Tracy Run, there are two shorter loops for the less intrepid, and a connector to Johnnycake Trail, which goes from the loop around the campground down Johnnycake Run to the North Country Trail along the Reservoir. Connector trails off the North Country and Tracy Ridge trails lead to two primitive campgrounds on the Reservoir's shores: Handsome Lake and Hopewell. These two campgrounds are only accessed by foot or boat, and - with 3 other boat access campgrounds - are the only legal way to camp along the shore of the reservoir. The Bullis Hollow Trail leads east of the Tracy Ridge Recreation Area, heading for the city of Bradford and the Marilla Trail System on the Bradford Water Authority property approximately 8 miles away.

Boat access to the Allegheny Reservoir is nearby at Willow Bay Recreation Area, for developed access, or Sugar Bay for primitive access.

Facilities

Over 70 spacious, shaded campsites are available, each containing a picnic table, campfire ring, and tent pad. Vault toilets are also available. Hand-pumped water is only available in loop E. Group sites are available by reserving entire camping loops.

Natural Features

The campground is situated in a mature oak stand on top of a hill, surrounded by streams and rock formations, at an elevation of 2,245 feet. The Allegheny Reservoir is approximately 5 miles from Tracy Ridge.

The Allegheny National Forest covers nearly half a million acres and is populated primarily with black cherry, maple, and other hardwoods. The Kinzua Dam, built in 1965, impounds the Allegheny River to form 25-mile-long Allegheny Reservoir.

Very quiet and the site was very spacious and private due to the thick wooded area. Trails were nice and visible so you knew you were still on the path. No cell phone service which made it even more enjoyable. Lots of downed foliage and branches to start a nice little fire in the burn pit. The picnic table provided at the site was also very nice to use. If you’re looking for extreme quiet and extreme relaxation, this is the place to go! 20 mins from Wolf Run Marina and Jake’s Rocks!

As advertised. Pit toilets were fine, clean and well provided. Well water pump only in loop E, so plan water pickup and transport accordingly. The water did have higher levels of iron but was still safe and refreshing to drink.

My husband and I camp at Tracy Ridge because it is our favorite place. This 4th of July visit there was a disappointment. We entered on July 2, as other campers did as well and the campground was not cut. High grass and was very aggravated as was the hubby. Lot of bugs to deal with. We stay in 108 because it is mossy and has grass. Unfortunately the grass cutter was there a day or so after. It was too late for us Campers already set up. Could not BELIEVE THE MOST CELEBRATED HOLIDAY EVER IN 250 YEARS AND WE NEVER NOT HAD A TIDY CAMPSITE.

Tracy Ridge is one of my favorite weekend camping spots. Perfect for a couple days of boon-docking as there are no hookup's at this facility. Only complaint I have is the dump station at this location is closed. You can dump for no additional charge at Willow Bay if you have a reservation at Tracy but; this is no help if you have to travel South. I have to dump at one of the other ANF sites south of there but always have to pay an extra charge to dump there.

Campsite was clean, fire pit worked well and was stocked with wood from the previous guest. We loved the accessibility of the trails. We did a 9-mile day hike; trails well-marked and clear, maps available on the way. Only suggestion is to use a color other than white for the diamond-shaped markers as they are not easy to spot.

For newcomers and first time visitors it would be helpful to have must -see-destitations. Closest gas stations, grocery stores for supplies, along with the mileage. Say to Bradford and Warren. Good eats. Also for water for folks that do not know Tracy Ridge does not have a dump station (even though it states this) and fresh water to go to Willow Bay and the directions to this campsite. Thank you for asking.
